Any colleges not hated by someone here? Any college universally loved?

SMU

Yes, there is so much love and respect on DCUM for SEC schools in Alabama with football stadiums that sit in the center of campus. The heads at Auburn are about to explode with all the DCUM love.

As for SMU (or TCU), few on DCUM would admit that their kids go there. It's everything DCUM hates - southern, private, and conservative. Better than Liberty and Oral Roberts, but too close for comfort.

A couple that seem to be well-liked are Davidson, Empry, CU Boulder and U of Washington, Seattle.

According to DCUM, at least 25% of the kids at Davidson end up transferring: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/30/861945.page#16920133

Emory is for kids who couldn't get into Duke, like Vanderbilt, except in Atlanta rather than Nashville.

People familiar with Colorado and Washington are too busy getting high during the shutdown to post on DCUM.

Sorry, but any college that erects a statue of Ronald Reagan on campus is a joke. And it stays afloat due to donations from some of the same right-wing groups that try to buy state elections.

How does donating to Hillsdale "buy state elections"? It's a podunk school that's churning out smart kids and has grown their endowment faster than any (S)LAC in the nation. They have an A+ long-term financial rating by Forbes, right there with HYPS. It's objectively really impressive. Every SLAC in the nation would kill for Hilldale's momentum and financial shape.

I went to U of W, and my kid goes to Davidson. Not sure why all the love; really, I don't think much of either of them, but we can only go to the schools that let us in!

Williams
Amherst
UNC

UNC gets lots of negative comments. Too parochial, too southern, cheating athletic department, etc.

Stanford seems to be well respected.
U of Washington isn't discussed much but doesn't seem to generate negative reactions.

UNC used to get a ton of negative comments that all seemed to be from the same poster; all that said "UNCcheat" about an athletic department scandal that happened very long ago (and in which many other big athletic schools like UVA, Kentucky, Kansas, Duke were also implied). People still love it. It still gets a ton of positive comments here.

People seem to also love: UT- Austin, Berkley, Pomona, Wisconsin, Elon, Pitt, Ga Tech, Vanderbilt, and CNU.

Everyone hates Duke, sorry.

BUT Duke still gets

This is an anonymous forum. Any of the negative comments about a school could be coming from one person with a grudge.

Actually with regard to the UNC hater, I remember that particular poster and Jeff started deleting the posts, because yes, they were from the same poster. Every single UNC thread, every one, the poster would have a UNCheat comment with random quotes.

DP. Don't need to. You clearly don't know what you're talking about. Like most liberals, you throw out ignorant positions following the liberal paradigm but when pressed show you haven't a clue what you are talking about.

Actually, not, but then you liberal types throw all conservatives in the same camp. We're horrible, racist, whatever. Grow up and learn politics.

If it's a podunk school, as you concede, do we really need to focus on whether the growth of its endowment is due to the investment acumen of its portfolio managers or whether it's just a favorite of the same right-wing groups that exploit Citizens United to flood the airways during state elections. It's still a podunk school that mostly attracts ultra-conservatives.

When DCUM posters all have to be approved by Mike Pence, Hillsdale will be universally loved on DCUM. Until then, there is plenty of disdain for the place.

I’m not a liberal, but you’re so dumb you think you can label anonymous posters, most of which you can’t even differentiate.

It has a great college town...but the admitted students tour was enough for my DD to cross it off the list. The tour guides basically said this is a place where an average HS student can excel. Of course, Newark is a great college town...but for us, it was a Meh experience.

The students who “excel” at Delaware typically don’t excel anywhere else later. But a few years where all the 5s think they are 8s and 9s may not be the worst thing in the world.

Well one of its graduates might be your president soon.

My kids attended a university that they absolutely loved, but there's no way I'm listing it here, after reading through the derisive comments. Too bad - this could have been such a useful thread for those looking for college suggestions.

This thread was doomed from the start. Asking for a list of schools "universally loved" by DCUM posters was no way to elicit useful suggestions.
