I agree that the actress's size is totally distracting. I get that she's not put on this earth to please anyone but herself, but wow, it's hard to see someone that obese. I would be hard to see anyone that obese, actress or otherwise.

Completely agree. I thought it was great when Toby had his outburst. He was right - even though I personally think their decision to do IVF is stupid and dangerous - it's THEIR decision. I liked that he set them all straight. He's known them now for some time, and I don't think it was inappropriate for him to speak his mind, especially about something so personal.

And yes - Kate needs to lose that weight. At this point, it's just ridiculous and all I can think in every scene she's in, is that she's going to keel over and have a heart attack. It's so unhealthy.

I wonder why they paint bariatric surgery as something so dangerous on the show. I was over 300lbs /5’7 with the weight only causing more and more problems. Lapband helped me with portion control, lost excess weight, went down to a healthy BMI, and had a baby on my own despite PCOS.

Why she would take the risk on IVF at her BMI and not weight loss surgery baffles me. The people who are unsuccessful with it are those who don’t want to change their eating habits but Kate is apparently making healthy choices already if she lost 40lbs.

Just a guess but the actress isn't getting bariatric surgery so how would that work?

Good point. I still don’t like how they ran the plot line of bariatric being too risky but IVF is all “go for your dreams”. Seems like a irresponsible way to portray life decisions for someone as large as her.

From my inner city upbringing and my teaching, I have gotten to know a lot of “Dasias.” Their ability to survive unthinkable losses and stressors blows me away. I think TIU is doing a great job of portraying the depth and complexity of Dasia’s story. I was delighted when she returned and will keep cheering for a healthy outcome to her arc.

I like the Dasia storyline also. Randall kids are cute, but nothing really interesting about them. I was frustrated when Dasia seemed ungrateful after basically asking for the family to help her, but then realized her reactions are pretty true to life. Who would not have issues with thier Mom giving them up.

I do not hate Kate but they need to give her more of a story than the poor fat victim. I guess that is the point of the IVF storyline.

It would be wonderful to see her move ahead with singing again. I think pain and loss adds a lot to some of my favorite recordings or performances. I don’t love Kate’s voice, but it would be a nice storyline.

Did they ever say why the young Kate decided not to apply to Berklee College of Music?

I was thinking this was a great age for them. I don’t love the mustache Jack or the bob Kate. The sweet 20s are just perfect for them. (And I have pre heartache for Vietnam Jack).
Two other thoughts: Chrissy Metz had her best episode last night (I’m not a fan of victim Kate). And I think Kevin/Justin Hartley are consistently underrated.

I liked the three Kates interacting, especially the teen Kate and Chrissy Metz. She really could have been talking to a former self.

For some reason, I'm not in the Kate hating camp. During her big blowup with Randall over her IVF and adoption I felt for both of them. And I say this as an adoptive parent.

Yeah, it was a crime that neither Moore nor Hartley was nominated for an Emmy for last season.

Teen Kate is really good. I’d put this episode up for a Chrissy Metz Emmy. I thought her flare up scene with Randall was exceptional. (Admittedly I’ve not been a huge Kate fan so maybe it was just nice to see her not playing the victim last night). I also loved the imagery of bringing (30 something) Jack back to a scene with the current Kate.

I was really surprised and bummed that Beth was let go. I wonder what that will bring. Although I suppose she and Randall have both been very prudent in their savings over time so this won't break them.
