Although this is awful, it wasn't in DC. |
"Martinez’s mother, Cora Martinez, said her daughter was an ambitious and vibrant young woman. She was working her dream job with a fast-growing start-up and got engaged last Wednesday."
|
Nia’s killer was a transient/homeless parolee. |
Apparently its wrong to tell women that jogging alone after dark two blocks away from "a notorious crime spot" (see, local resident pp, above) is unsafe. |
That was awful as well, but this is a DC Forum, that is why I listed murders that occured in DC. |
Yet it was the exact same crime and practically in a parallel city to DC. A woman's throat was slashed with no provocation, a stranger murdered her, and surprise - this stranger was a homeless man with prior convictions for robbery and assault. The outrage is warranted and the cities need to do more to prevent crimes like these - get rid of the violent men. I don't care how. https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/27/us/nia-wilson-murder-bart-stabbing-trnd/index.html |
I guarantee we'll find out that Wendy's killer was also homeless with a past criminal record. It's not rocket science. It's a pattern. |
Oh, did you do a full study of murders of black women? what's your point? |
|
I've heard of "driving while black" used to accurately describe the perilous act of simply driving for innocent black men.
I think a another slogan could be "jogging while being a white female"... seems many white females have fatal events occur while jogging... this poor woman in DC, Molly Tibbets, the Central Park jogger, Karina Ventrano to name a few high profile ones. |
Honestly - I think its because they're usually jogging alone wearing skintight clothes while oblivious to the world. I am NOT blaming the victim. Just an observation here. Plenty of my friends go out in the most ridiculous attire even in obviously not safe scenarios - one regularly goes jogging through a warehouse area near train tracks. Another wore body shorts to jog in Mumbai. It's situational awareness and many women in general (but fair in particular) don't have it. |
Don’t forget Chandra Levy! Also in DC. |
Oh, but next month posters will be crying how unfair it is that so many black men are incarcerated. As if they are in prison for no reason and should be set free because too many are in prison. Well, here is yet another one that also should have been in prison. |
Wait, women are murdered because Lycra? |
I agree (I am a woman). It’s about drawing attention to yourself. If we can help it, as women, it’s best not to draw attention. Might sound sexist, but it’s also a safe practice. |

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, five white females, four Hispanic females, 49 black females, and one "other" female were victims of homicide in the District of Columbia between 2012 and 2016, inclusive.
Also according to the Metropolitan Police Department, 23 white males, 18 Hispanic males, and five "other" males were victims of homicide in the District of Columbia between 2012 and 2016, inclusive. What about black males, you ask? Black males accounted for 113 victims of homicide in 2016 alone. 489 black males were victims of homicide from 2012-16, representing 82% of all victims -- meaning black males accounted for four times the number of homicide victims than every other sex-race combination combined. Black men kill black men. If you're a white woman, your white husband or white boyfriend is much more likely to murder you than a black male.
