LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A 7-year-old boy was shot and killed Sunday, July 3 while he and his brother were playing with a loaded gun. Troopers tell WSAZ the two boys didn't know it was loaded and the 8 year-old accidentally shot 7-year-old Blake Andrew Case. "Blake was probably the happiest little boy I've ever met," said Benjamin Dillon, a friend of the family. "He always had a smile on his face. Just not seeing his little face every day is going to be, it's going to be tough." http://www.wymt.com/content/news/7-year-old-shot-and-killed-in-Lawrence-County-385709101.html http://www.thelevisalazer.com/index.php/regional-state-news/7-year-old-lowmansville-boy-killed-in-accidental-shooting http://www.wsaz.com/content/news/Troopers-7-year-old-accidentally-shot-and-killed-by-brother-while-playing-with-loaded-gun-385698701.html |

These posts, while tragic, are nothing more than a "Think of the children!" campaign.
How pointless. |
Holy shit. Your response makes me sad for humanity. |
You have a heart of shriveled black tar and I wonder how you feel if one of these children was a family member. |
| Well when you consider how many children per year die senselessly or needlessly that number pales in comparison to the number who die by firearms. |

ALMA, Mich. (AP) - Police say a 7-year-old boy accidentally fatally shot his father with a high-powered rifle while his family was asleep in their mid-Michigan home. The Alma Police Department says officers responded about 12:15 a.m. Friday to the home following a report of the shooting. A statement from police says the boy had removed the gun from a locked case after finding the keys. An autopsy is planned. The statement says Child Protective Services is assisting the family. Alma is located about 105 miles northwest of Detroit. |
| Wth? That actually sounds premeditated, not accidental. |
Another family destroyed by our society's fetish with guns. http://www.mlive.com/news/saginaw/index.ssf/2016/07/family_of_7-year-old_who_fatal.html |

That kid knew what he was doing. Something else is going on in that story. I honestly call bullshit on the police calling it an accident. I'm curious if the weapon was locked away fully loaded, though.
Not that it makes it less awful, but that's not the same as a kid just finding a weapon laying around. |
Not sure how you draw that conclusion. If it had been a 7 year old shooting his 5 year old sister who was asleep on the couch, you'd have no different basis to judge the situation, but you'd nevertheless not assume it was intentional. Regardless, it's yet another example of a child's life being destroyed by our supposed "need" to have easy access to guns for everyone. |

July 8 -- A 3-year-old girl found a loaded gun in a bedroom and fatally shot herself in the head. She did not make it when they arrived in the hospital.
The child and her family are visiting at Lemoore from Southern California when the incident happened. CBS reported that "Lemoore police Detective Matthew Smith told The Fresno Bee the apartment where the tragic incident happened Saturday is occupied by two roommates who were away at the time." The gun is registered to a friend of one of the roommates, according to Smith. http://www.parentherald.com/articles/53622/20160708/http-www-cbsnews-com-news-toddler-dead-self-inflicted-gunshot-wound.htm |
Look, I'm one of the people arguing for your side of things. I think parents who leave loaded weapons where kids can get a hold of them should be charged. But, no, my read of this story is that this wasn't an accident. Did he sleepwalk to find the gun safe key? And then sleep walk into the bedroom to shoot his stepdad? And it wouldn't have been an accident if he'd shot a sleeping sibling, either. Obviously, he's a minor and can't be charged with murder and man, this is awful. But it wasn't an accident. |
