Uh, what?

It's just that everyone's saying the poor kids were cold, so cold, so freezing, frigidly cold. Children are exposed to the elements all the time. These kids were sitting in a car.

Unattended in that cold car. Big difference.

I think you're just causing trouble.

Single moms are not idiots. Like most moms, they will try to find a bus stop that is near some sort of building you can walk into when it's that cold, if they are with the kid.

Do you take the bus? Of course they're not idiots. But you don't "choose" your bus stop. If it's not near anything, you're SOL. You wait and freeze. If you walk into a building, you miss the bus.

It wouldn't have been remotely ok if it was 60 degrees outside instead of 28. The children were left unattended for an hour. That's illegal, for very good reason. It's just made even worse by the fact that it was so cold. And that the reason the children were left unattended was so the parents could drink wine.

You are clearly an idiot. Why do you think people have heat indoors. Because without it, it is COLD, even inside. You do realize people without heat, who have a whole building or house around them, can freeze in the winter without heat.
Have you never been in an unheated car?

BTW there is alkso a big difference between sitting still or worse yet sleeping in the cold and moving around in the cold. These kids had no real way to generate any heat. Small cildren have a much harder time regulating their body temperature than adults.

You either know these ridiculous people or you are just ridiculous yourself.

People, why are we talking about single moms??? And the bus? This story does not involve any single moms or buses. It involves a wealthy, educated couple with their own car but, apparently, no common sense. And even in your scenario, the kids might get cold, but a responsible ADULT is with them and able to notice any issues and respond to them.

I seriously can't believe there are people who think it's okay to leave babies alone in a cold car on a city street for an hour plus to attend a wine tasting! And who knows how much longer they would have been there if the police had not been called?

~ Single mom who skips social outings if unable to find a sitter!!!

Perhaps you have heard of the internet. They have apps they tell you when the next bus is coming, works for the metro too. Are you really implying that parents who have their kids out in the cold to get too and from school are bad parents and these people who locked their kids in a car on a cold day are not? You are a fool.

Absolutely imbecilic and inexcusable. That said, chances are very good that the children will be better off with these parents, with appropriate monitoring and the threat of future punishment (and additional shame), than being removed from their home.

Oh ffs you people freak out at the idea of leaving a dog in the car for 10 minutes in 50 degree weather yet you're telling me that this was okay? Even if this wasn't a weather issue, it is the issue of leaving kids unattended. If someone left their baby in a crib at home while they went to a wine tasting would that be okay? No. Why are you excusing this??

This behavior is abhorrent. Those poor children were stranded (and locked down) in a cold car. I can't imagine how panicked I would feel if I had been the passerby and happened upon these two babies abandoned in the car. I can only hope they were sleeping and not crying in fear.

Who the hell drives 4 blocks to go to a wine tasting?

I cannot fathom even thinking of doing this. Those poor children. Imagine how scared they must have been. My toddler won't let me out of her sight.

PP-- I think I found the mother's FB page--it was her birthday recently. There's a picture of her with 2 cute toddlers.

I can think of at least 1 great wine store in the vicinity of her apt--just drink at home!!

Nope. The courthouse is not open on Sundays. You get arrested in DC on Saturday evening, you're sitting in jail until Monday morning.

Yes, what doesn't kill them makes them stronger.

Maybe they expected to take their kids into the wine tasting and were told they couldnt. So what do do? Maybe one parent checked on them every few minutes and kids were probably asleep.

WTF! No, not even close to being acceptable.

Guess they're not going to be able to host drop off play dates or parties later. Nobody will want to send their kids over to their place.
