I would embrace that, if it means regular people can still get an income and more free time. We’re currently operating in a society where everyone has to work for a living, and we have no plan for supporting the population when there are fewer jobs. |
Why are people so jealous of federal and Fannie Freddie employees? Are the Twins Fannie and Freddie most profitable companies per employee as the employees abused the remote work? I feel only the DC, Nova and MD area companies both govt and private have called back 5 days a week. Many companies in south, mid west, west coast and north east have not called 5 days. Most people go to office is only 3 days and there is a hugh difference in quality of life if you are required to be in office 5 va 3 days a week. The new administration is disappointing people who are in and around DC. |
And it’s working. |
Ai is not a good thing, no one has ever offered reasons to think it is. There is no reason "non manual" jobs would be better done by Ai, and quite a lot of evidence AI makes things worse. To your point about commutes, how strange that "collaboration" supposedly necessitates an in-office presence, but also the job can supposedly be done by AI ... That would seem like a contradiction, until you realize the point is just to undermine education and knowledge work (and art, too) by any means available. These people just hate anything that gives people the wherewithal to think or to join together in community. If you're not struggling to survive, you're a threat to them. |
maybe you should look into it? If you can’t even explain how it will do knowledge work here, then I’m gonna go with “PP talking out of their *ss for $500.” FWIW I work for an agency that has considered the use of AI by our regulated entities. So far NONE of them are using it despite there being no prohibition. And we are quite clear that although AI may be used for certain regulatory compliance functions in theory (e.g. flag a risk) that there needs to be a human in charge. This is not going to change. |
Even Elon has come out in favor of UBI, as AI and tech replaces humans in most office fields and if robots replaces many humans in actual labor fields, then massive lack of work will require corporations to fund a Basic Level Income for most citizens. |
I understand your fears. Even you inadvertently admitted that AI will replace most humans, with "a" human in charge. It won't replace humans, but will eliminate the need for so many workers, perhaps by as much as 99% in some fields. |
Yeah, meetings and so-called collaborations are always a huge waste of time, but a way for the management to eat up time themselves and "look busy". Learned that as a kid in school before ever entering the workforce. |
I truly do not think so. |
Is this a good thing? |
The Chief Executive of the Federal Government has decided on RTO. The fact that some companies have opted for hybrid schedules is irrelevant. If you want a hybrid schedule, then go work for one of those companies. |
Was it a good thing that machinery replaced the need for so many farm workers? Philosophical debate to ponder. Some things are good about it, and some are not. AI will replace most jobs. |
| By when will jobs get replaced with AI? 2026 or in the next 5 years? Impact will be in all the fields or mostly IT? |
Well 71 oercent of women with kids under 5 are now working full time. I say we give a small payment for that population if they want to stay home with young kids. Problem solved. |
Perfect, also solves the childcare crisis! |
