What is going to happen to the RTO?

Technology has defeated those jobs.

This is false, and you repeating it on every telework thread does not make it any more true. It does make you sound like you've never held an office job, though.

I talk to my doctor over the phone for a telehealth appointment: does that mean we get rid of doctors? Use doctors in India? No.

Denying the reality of the situation is counterproductive. It is what it is, and the future will show you that. Even the present should reveal that to you, if you stop denying it.

How can someone be so ignorant?

I know you are scared by the reality of the situation, but denying it will only make your inevitable realization that much more difficult when the time comes. Many current jobs will become extinct for humans and replaced by AI or even robotics. Boomers/Millennials may not realize this, but they will. Gen X'rs seem to realize it, as do zoomers.

I have a PhD in Chemistry, nothing scares me.

Eh. Everyone I know with professional jobs in the private sector can do their job at home a day or two a week. If being able to use a computer and email in your home office is the line then no job should be safe.

Those jobs will be replaced. Really it will return to physical labor jobs being the only secure ones, talking more complicated physical labor jobs, not robotic factory assembly line ones that robots can do.

God please, I’m dying here. Mainly because I’m the only idiot coming in. Seems like everyone else has sprung a reason for a deferral or a new RA.

I think the average fed age is 52+ so of course tons of RAs are being filed. GenZ didn't really get into the government.

Actually it’s the 40s-50s people dragging their butts in. We have a lot of young people at our agency. Many, surprisingly, are somehow exempt from RTO for some reason or another.

Have you ever held an office job? And I don’t mean cleaning the floors.

Hopefully flexibility loosens up soon. I am burning sick leave today because my kid has pink eye. Such a waste of productivity.

This the reason why we have the RTO.

You’re kind of missing the point. If the poster was allowed to work from home they’d be working not using leave. If their child is school aged, they’re able to take care of themself while their parent works from home.
