I mean he will never live a 'normal' life again but he can most certainly live a life that is better than one in prison under the radar. He can do labor work for cash and just blend in. I'd be shocked if he wasn't in Mexico by now. I'm sure his parents hooked him up with 50 grand, handed over in cash and he gets down and sets up a bank account with a bribe. Pays for some fake-ish papers. He will lay low for a year or two and then use some assumed identity to just live a quiet life somewhere, probably somewhere out of the country. In 10 years, he will have aged enough that no one would recognize him, he could easily come back with a beard and 30 pounds of weight added and steal an identity and no one would ever know.

Criminals get caught because they are stupid. Most of them are VERY stupid. But if you are a smart person and you set out to commit a crime and not get caught, the odds are in your favor. And while the guy seems like a horrific human being, he does NOT seem stupid.

if he managed to cross the border into Mexico (remember no passport or ID, so not easy), I'd expect that whoever helped him cross now has his money and is either demanding more from his parents before killing him or has already killed him

If some mexican body smuggler is even paying attention to the news. When he disappeared it wasn't the story it is today. And he has a generic face. He's already gone melted into the crowds, how would the smugglers find him?

This is all happening (probably with the exception of bringing charges because so far there’s no way to tell about that and the parents have probably been interviewed with a lawyer now). You won’t know about it until an arrest affidavit is released, for a lot of reasons.

The FBI already knows if he left the United States by air or if the parents flew sometime in the questionable timeline. They’re not going to release that but I would say all indicators look like no.

The amount of digital evidence in this case is likely staggering. I don’t know if he has any kind of phone on him now (but if I had to guess I would guess no). But they will have a huge amount of evidence to sift through from when he did, even if they can’t obtain the device (I believe they said they did but I’m not 100% positive). You need a warrant for most back end data and then it has to be analyzed by someone certified. This process can take awhile in terms of charging but will be guiding the investigation/search throughout as they receive it.

As far as dive teams etc they can be looking for evidence too not just a POI. It’s likely they have a reason to believe something of evidentiary value was tossed into that water. Could have happened recently or days ago. That reason might be finding something else nearby that is suspicious or could be connected to BL, or the terrain appeared disturbed in some way (based on drone footage or grid searches).

I personally doubt even his parents know his exact location at this point. I’m sure they have an idea of what could be possible.

Not necessarily. I know plenty of people in Florida with private small planes that don't even file flight plans. The narcos sure don't.

The parents gave him $$$ and a plan. There's no way he came up with this on his own. They helped him set off for some destination (Mexico perhaps?)? They know what general direction he was headed in. They know. Even if he does end up dust, I hope these people are held responsible.

If he had a passport, why would he have to sneak across without an ID? You don't have to go through US customs if you drive across. You just show your passport to Mexican customs, who may or may not even have a scanner depending on how remote the crossing is. Mexican officials aren't looking for illegal crossers. That is the other direction. He wouldn't have even needed a smuggler. Just a car that wouldn't be traced to him and a slightly modified appearance. And remember, no one saw him for two weeks. That guy grew out a beard, died his hair, and skedaddled. And as a result everyone is looking for some skinhead skinny dude from that police stop and in reality his hair is probably longer, got a pair of fake glasses and a goatee and he looks like a hipster from Portland. I think some of you really want to believe that the bad guys can/will always get caught.

Again, criminals are dumb, if you are smart, you can get away with almost anything. Except tax fraud.

Hmmm, I'd wondered when we get the connection between Brian and Wyoming and why he buried Gabby there. Apparently they were traveling through Wyoming, not Utah (which is where the police picked them up), when he killed her.

This isn't a movie where he comes up with an amazing detailed plan and escaped from the U.S.

He didn’t need an amazingly detailed plan and he had three weeks or more to come up with what to do. And had parents with liquid wealth who he came back to. Most people facing certain jail sentence in a case like this would probably at least try to run. With some smarts and some money it’s not that hard to run.
