DCPS students shafted again - sign petition to keep Jelleff field public

I spent 8 hours watching a hearing that I had no opinion on.
Now I have an opinion.
Let me share it.

Us DCPS parents are like that, we care and are outraged even when it does not directly impact our kids. Ad me as another to that list. I am a DCPS parent that has no child impacted by this and I care. I signed the petition when this thread was only 2 pages long. I am following along with interest and outrage.

The story that Maret was somehow helping out DCPR with the original 10 year sweetheart deal is bad enough, the entitlement of their defense to a light being shined on their back room deal that extended it is mind boggling.

I hadn’t considered how insensitive and demeaning Maret’s mascot is, particularly for the French. Shameful.

Yeah, and the French race is a protected class.. historically so persecuted...
Somebody is out of arguments but their fingers are still running on fumes

Are you new to DC or do you just not get out much? The French are plenty persecuted in social gatherings across the city. Furthermore, whether the French are protected or persecuted is irrelevant. Would mascots named “Honkies” or “Crackers” be tolerable anywhere in America? So why would a racial slur against an entire country? And, yes, it is offensive. If you have any French friends, refer to them to their face with the name of your mascot - “this is my friend, Pierre, the frog” - and don’t be surprised when you get punched in the face.

FRANCE is a COUNTRY., not a race.. are you new to the world?

Race is in fact a social construct, so it is whatever we want it to be. And, yes, slurs based on national origin are generally deemed to be racist. If you want to prove this, just go around telling everyone how much you hate those whining limeys and then check in a week later to see what everyone makes of you.

Well duh. Not those. Look at the 60%who aren’t. I’m sure they fit into the upper middle class and probably the top 5% of income nationally. So to pretend otherwise is dishonest. Hardy parents, Kishan Putta, and Elizabeth ‘Louboutin’ Miller propping up poor kids for their own political benefit. Shameful.

You are seriously kidding yourself if you think
1. that Hardy families have anywhere near the resources of Maret families
2. that outrage about the Jelleff situation is limited to Hardy parents and supporters of two ANC reps

I suppose misunderstanding these facts is a big part of why Maret’s PR on this is so ineffective.

I’m just a regular old DC taxpayer with no connection to either school, live in a different part of the city, and I’m horrified. Feels like when the last chancellor skipped the lottery but lectured parents about improving their inbound schools. Rules are for the little people, the city elite do business differently.

Lol.. this is getting tired folks.
Time for a new script.

"I'm just a regular old dc taxpayer, and I chose to read 1000 posts about something completely unconnected to me and came up with this unbiased opinion."

Are you kidding? This drama is delicious, of course we’re reading these posts! But: Maret parents, especially this commenter who took the time to rip up four posts in a row, you are not doing yourselves any favors.

French is an ethnicity.

So a person born in France, from parents who were born in Algiers would not qualify as a frog?
Wow.. .
I mean, I knew Hardy Boosters in this forum were entitled, but to see it laid so bare...

Same here. My kids are in DCPS but not Hardy. As the parent of a kid whose rec team struggles to find field space to practice on, I’m frustrated. As a taxpayer, I’m outraged. And as a sentient human, I’m horrified by the Maret community, who’ve shown themselves to be truly shameless.

Another person in agreement here. It's pretty clear that this is a case of rich entitled folks taking whatever they want.

OP here.. not a Maret Parent, but don't like the entitled outrage here. Used to teach in various DCPS east and west of the park, and I'm just showing you what it looks like from the east.

“OP” of what? I assume you are not the one who made the original post about the petition, and you are not the first poster of the comments quoted above.

Hilarious. Literally nobody that isn't a Maret parent shares your point of view. I am not even at Hardy or in that feeder pattern. Every parent I've talked to across the city thinks it's disgusting.

Not all fake, but definitely entitled.
I'll believe that the intentions are pure when the Hardy PTA/O starts benefiting Alton or Beers or Bowen.

I didn't form an opinion until I was forced to watch the testimony by DPR. I'm presuming that you got your information from a more biased source?
