How many playing fields does one small private school need? Seriously asking because they already have a huge field behind their buildings. These private schools are very concerned with image and being perceived as being “inclusive” if you could get a bunch of Hardy parents to protest outside Naret for a day or two, trust me, concessions would be made. No use trying to convince DPR, they are hopeless, you w gotta go after Maret instead.

+1. Maybe publicly shaming Maret is a better solution.

Wow, I don't even live in DC and that is pretty shocking. Why shouldn't DC schools have first dibs on use of DPR property??

You can't be serious!!! Because our tax dollars pay for it.

I did. Sorry. I should have been more careful.

I signed the petition. This is shameful.

Agree. I would participate and be happy to speak on camera. With regard to Maret...on one hand you could argue, "can't blame 'em for asking" but on the other, they should be ashamed. They are fully aware of the public outcry and calls for more equitable use of a scarce public resource. But they want what they want when they want it and will happily write a check. It's disgusting. Would love to get this story elevated to a national news platform.

I think this sounds like a story that would get a lot of clicks on the Washington Post front page. Someone should send a link to this thread to the metro editor.

DC is not a tax poor city. We could pay for our own turf and fence at Jelleff. I would appreciate seeing my tax dollars spent that way. We don't need Maret to pay for this. It's absurd and infuriating.

Why didn't Hardy offer $250k over ten years or $25k this year? Is their PTA broke?
Anonymous
Why should Hardy have to pay to use a city-owned field??
This is shameful. And yes, the Post should aggressively go after it. Someone from Hardy should be calling Perry Stein and giving her an earful. Along with a copy of the list of the Maret Board of Directors.
