FCPS Skyview Boundary Scenario 1/2/3

They are in fact hypocrites. How often do they pay lip service to "equity"? There's nothing equitable about taking hush money to move a neighborhood the consultants (and everyone else) thinks it makes sense to move.

I doubt it is hush money. Just politics. Still wrong.

Without that Walney Oaks area or any other area being moved, Westfield will drop down to 2083 students, from 2750 now.

If the FARMs rate is over 40% (which seems highly likely given who is moving out and who is moving in), they will not be able to run most AP classes and will have to destaff 1/3rd of their teachers (beyond who they are losing next year to Skyview).

Really devastating for a school community, and completely unnecessary.

Politicians do favors in the hopes of getting donations. Who is doing a favor for who in that neighborhood? Can we get that Fairfax Times reporter on this?

Now you’re telling me that people are getting a raw deal? Who could’ve seen that coming?

What a stupid post. None of this is caused by whatever quality of school Skyview is or will be.

It’s clear that the decision to purchase the school was rushed and not thought through.

Here lies the consequences of the ill-informed hurried decisions of a flawed process.

Or am I mistaken that everyone is happy with this outcome? Because I see a lot of complaining here.

People don't like change. See the multitude of threads on the county wide redistricting and suggested boundary shifts. The 18 months of complaining, whinging, and gnashing of teeth that influenced the process so that the schools that are over crowded were pretty much left untouched. The complaints have little to do with the why and more to do with the idea that someone else needs to move, not me.

And some people are happy with the outcome, they have less incentive to post. The families that I know who opted into Skyview are happy, a bit nervous because it is a new school with new admin and they are going to be involved in building the community. but happy.

There are families in Chantilly that are happy, the school isn't going to be overcrowded and they were not moved. Some Oak Hill families are happy with the move, many are resigned.

Centerville and Westfield families who were not moving to Skyview somehow or another missed how this was going to impact them and woke up late to the fact that kids were either going to be moved from Centreville or Westfiled was going to be far smaller. I have no clue how both schools missed that but they did.

Crossfield is it's own mess. I am shocked that we have not seen a ton of posts from Crossfield families bemoaning the decision to split the ES instead of choosing the posters favored option for HS.

DP. It was obvious to many from the beginning that a school at the KAA site would draw primarily from Westfield and that there would be big fights later about who did or didn’t get moved into Westfield to backfill the school.

Those chickens are finally coming home to roost. And now the preening School Board members who couldn’t stop slapping themselves on the back for buying KAA will have to deal with the unpleasant side.

Buying KAA was a great decision. Poor decisions are NOT doing the AAP in all those MS and NOT removing enough from Chantilly which is part of the undercapacity mess for Westfield. Centreville to 3000? Shave off some capacity BUT load students zoned for Fairfax and Robinson [ancient modular].

Neither scenario moves enough out of Chantilly [ancient modular and trailers] to Westfield. Note the Walney Oaks area should get moved.

There are a good many high FARMS being pulled out. But, agree, this stinks.

They are moving schools were fewer people vote so they can keep their positions.

Chantilly needed relief.
Centreville needed relief.
Westfield needed relief.
Oakton could use relief and will need it shortly.

They should have developed reasonable boundaries and set a short time frame to set them. Why they delayed it beyond the county wide study is puzzling.

But, Skyview is needed.

No, it was desired, not needed. Leaving Herndon with 600 empty seats, Westfield with 800 empty seats, and South Lakes with 450 empty seats is absurd, and who knows what they’ll do at Centreville, which the latest CIP still calls for expanding to 3000.

And they are wasting tens of millions on Dunn Loring as well.

Time to vote out these clowns.

Taking Westfield down to 74% capacity but leaving Chantilly at 99 or 101 percent in either scenario is batsh!t crazy. Those areas in the middle between the schools need to be moved over to Westfield.

They aren't even trying to hide the corruption and favoritism.

If they don’t have the guts to move some higher-income Chantilly families into Westfield, they can forget ever trying to move any part of even wealthier Langley into Herndon. They are basically triaging the schools and saying it’s fine to have 1400 empty seats at two high schools we’ve written off as long as we aren’t dealing with noisy parents.

Especially when its so obvious on the map that it makes sense to move some areas. There is literally a carve out for some areas on the map. That's completely ridiculous.
And the fact that we all know the consultants suggested it because it makes so much sense and watched the special favor literally play out on our screens.

They are deliberately choosing to leave South Lakes and Westfield without enough students for advanced classes.

Are they dropping IB from South Lakes? They will have fewer than 2000 kids. No one will be getting those IB diplomas.

They are elected to make decisions in the best interests of all the students and the school system and taxpayers.
They are completely abdicating their responsibilities.
