And I thought the person who responded to the Langley parent was spot on - very respectful and noted that all our tax dollars go to FCPS as a whole. I agree that at some point, western Great Falls will need to be rezoned due to the bus situation (I am a Langley parent).

What bus situation? Has something changed in the last twenty years with that transportation that we’re not aware of? Because the only change I’m aware of is expanding the bridge at gtp and 495 to make the commute easier.

Nothing has changed, but one of he goals is to reduce transit times. Western GF meets that definition. They are building a huge apartment complex in Tysons (Spring Hill Rd, on the Vienna side) and while I think it is currently zoned for Marshall, I could totally see it rezoned to Langley if Marshall becomes overcrowded.

Well then “need to” is not the right phrasing here.

I wonder if the Westbriar island sticking out like a sore thumb in the middle school/high school maps is making them nervous. It’s so close to Colvin Run and looks almost the exact shape of the Forestville cutout into Herndon.

they were given the choice to go to wolf trap and then madison but they didn’t want it

Also that other woman who said Reid and her accomplice was gaslighting, that the opportunities exist at each school, and that all schools offer equal learning experiences. However, she started the meeting off highlighting how FCPS are 7 of the top 10 for VA (Langley being number 2)! It was pure gaslighting. Everyone knows Langley is a great school, we pay a premium for the great school, and dont want to be moved out based on the whims of a school board that should be focused on other issues.

Uh, Reid's "accomplice" was your School Board member, Robyn Lady.

I don't recall either saying that "all schools offer equal learning experiences," but Lady did say that Langley, McLean, and Herndon offer the same courses, including AP courses, apart from some variations in foreign languages.

How are they gaslighting you when literally no changes have been made other than adding less than 50 kids to your high school? There is no gas lighting because there are no changes being made. The Langley parents should have kept quiet.

it’s over 200 kids actually. reid also said they would be looking at transfers. and putting same programs in schools to keep kids in zones. i wonder if pupil placing is going to be squashed. there are 100 that pupil place into langley now

I do think that’s one of the reasons the board has been reluctant to make equity-based changes. It makes for some awkward conversations: the school is too crowded you have to move. Response: What about all the people who don’t even live here who are going to the school?

That's incorrect. Scenario 3 proposed to move them to Wolftrap and keep them at Marshall. Scenario 4 proposes to move Wolftrap to Madison but doesn't include the Westbriar island.

They want to move to Colvin Run because kids in their neighborhoods have been bused past Colvin Run for over 20 years to Westbriar when Colvin Run is much closer.

The Great Falls (Herndon address) people tonight: "You owe me a good school because I paid too much for my house."

The guy who had his daughter read her script about why Langley was better than Herndon was pure cringe. Then the wife took over and had her spiel too to make sure she covered the "I paid for a good school" schtick. It was diabolical when Reid was like, "what was that, we couldn't hear you" after the woman's emotionally charged outburst about how terrible Herndon is.

But that's Langley's insurance policy, at least for now. They can move 200 more kids from McLean and then Langley can shut off the pupil placement pipeline and claw back 100 seats to reduce the impact.

Not the PP, but I think Forestville will be rezoned in 5 year as or so.

Don’t sleep on the town of Herndon growth. Lots of developments in the works.

Also a good point - but are any kids expected to be moved out of Herndon’s boundaries to KAA? Or if not, would Herndon kids be moved to the schools that are losing kids to KAA?

Herndon has over 2000 students but they do have additional space after the expansion. If the SL kids who PP out for IB stayed there, it would be closer to 2200. No Herndon kids will be sent to KAA--at least not in the forseeable future. KAA is not closer--at least I don't think it is.

Great Falls kids are not being moved on any of the scenarios. Why are they screaming? I will say they seem to especially hate the purchase of KAA--and I think I know why.
