Left will primary Schumer if he ends the shutdown.

Today is Day 20 of the Republican shutdown. Your regular reminders:

1. Republicans control the White House, Senate and House.

2. GOP making deep cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and ACA.

3. Democrats are fighting to lower costs, cancel the cuts and save healthcare for Americans.

Absolutely.

All hell is going to break loose if there is no SNAP benefits on the first.

They need to get the government open. So many people missing paychecks, so many services not filled or at risk. I’m so frustrated.

I personally think the democrats should sign the 7 week CR at the end of the month to bring back on Monday 11/3. Americans on ACA will receive their increase notices on/about 11/1. That hike will create enough outrage. Dems can say the GOP agreed to negotiate ACA subsidies in the full year bill. Let Feds get back pay and another 2 checks before a thanksgiving. Returning 11/3 gives everyone 3 weeks to negotiate a deal. If the GOP refuse to extend subsidies (with added pressure from constituents) in the next CR of full year bill, then shut it down again.

the house has basically not been in session since July, meaning they haven't been working on an actual budget bill at all.

It's a complete failure of governance, and there really is no one to blame but Republicans.

If MAGA wants it done, they can do away with the filibuster. Chip Roy was up there today advocating for that.

People realize this was a CR right?

Meaning - the Dems wouldn't sign off on a CR.

The budgeted items passed prior to CR takes center stage whether CR passes or not.

In other words, the premiums are still going up whether the shutdown happened or not. The only thing the Dems achieved is going on record to disagree with the CR.

I'm confused as to why shutting down (and it's not even 100% shutdown to add insult to injury because it's then working for no money for a lot of folks) was a good idea for such a short time? Once 11/1 hits, the Republicans get their raised premiums no?

That will be followed by millions losing their healthcare. People will be pissed. And who is it that called those millions "lazy moochers" and basically wants to cut them off of SNAP and Medicare and ACA and leave them to starve, get sick and die anyhow? Republicans.

Why don’t they have a bill? What has Congress been doing with their time?! I would like an email with 5 bullet points stating what they’ve accomplished this week from every sitting Congress member.

I think this whole thing is wrong by both sides. The republicans for sure and for everything they do! It's like they make no good decisions ever for anyone except themselves/rich.

The Dems are fools and morons who lack any ability and strategy to get anything accomplished - between egos and stupidity - they are no better than the Dems.

We need younger blood, smarter and more reasonable folks on both sides of the govt in leadership. The problem is, nobody in their right mind wants to go into govt anymore these days...

I think it's a slow slide into the mud for us. The system will really need to change in order for new leadership to develop.

Could be at some point the democrats will just have to say, “well, we tried to save you losers from yourselves. Here are the repercussions you’ll suffer at the hands of the republicans. Good luck, dummies, vote better in November.”

This is the point. It's a huge FAFO for the country.

It brings it all to a head more quickly, and people are going to be SHOCKED and FREAKED out when they finally get that fact the the Republicans are wrecking Americans healthcare.

Especially all the MAGAs.

MAGA’s mission to “make America great again” centers on bringing jobs back to the United States. However, for those factories and companies to operate, there must be workers willing to labor for much lower wages. The recent cuts to SNAP and Medicaid benefits for all able-bodied individuals appear to be part of a calculated strategy. History seems to be repeating itself—think back to the Hoover presidency. This approach appears designed to create economic desperation, forcing people to accept lower-paying jobs in order to feed their families. It’s all part of a much larger industrial plan to restore business and reshape the labor market within the United States. The Dems and Republicans benefit, this is not one sided stop thinking so small.

The Republicans are operating on a notion of "we need to cut SNAP because it will force lazy moochers to work" except a sizeable percentage of SNAP recipients are already working. and the remainder who aren't working often have issues such as disabilities that make it hard for them to work, including disabled veterans. That is who they will be cutting off.

Work for lower wages? I recall an article a little while back talking about how 13.5% of the Walmart employees in Ohio were collecting SNAP. They already can't afford to feed their families yet MAGA wants to cut their SNAP *and* pay them less.

It's unreal.

Well if the Dems cave and let Republicans have their way it will be a way to guarantee no Republican ever gets elected again for generations.
