He started with the arguments that in the previous Congress, The Ds had the same slim majority and still passed a lot more legislation. He's also pointed out pointed out instances where the R House members actually voted for things that a majority of Americans and their constituents disagreed with. And now, he's pointing out the many social programs including poor, children, etc that the Rs were trying to slash like 30% off may of the social safety net.

He's trying to ensure that the blame for the shutdown is on the Rs first, the HFC second and put pressure on them to relent to get the government open again. It's pure political posturing.

Yup. It's a democrat shutdown, full stop

Your parroting MAGA talking points doesn’t make it true.

Senate Rs refusing to vote for their CR so house can push through. Dems will vote yes, or they would have refused already. Republicans are way better at hostage taking.

You're a page late. It's not clear that Dems will agree to no Ukraine $.

And TBH they shouldn't.

This is the most accurate thing I've read in this entire thread.

I say let the House GOP pass this bill.

It's done - sigh. This CR will go thru as now rumors are that a ton of House Dems are going to vote for it. Back to work. I need a new job given that I'd much rather be shutdown for 3 months with no pay than go back to the SEC. At least this clarifies for me that I personally need to quit - when you hate something so much that you're rooting for a shutdown, time to go.

I mean IDK for sure that it's true - but the online sources that have people running around the hill are saying to expect a huge yes vote here. I'd love for it to be wrong but I doubt it.

You don’t work for SEC because they are fee funded and were never shutting down. So probably the rest is lies too.

Wonder how much of the posts here are GRU agents trying undermine Ukraine funding.

it will be hard for the dems not to support this. My worry is that the dems are now in a losing position for the budget negotiations. if they vote yes on this, the GOP will be aggressive about not including any Ukraine spending in the FY24 budget. then what? all the news is reporting is that there is now an option to keep the government open. but why are the dems not pushing back on reporters that there has always been an option--the bi-partisan agreement from the debt deal that passed. the house could take that up. if dems cave they have to cave for the final budget.

Please don’t put it those terms. Feds just want to do their jobs, like everyone else. Nothing — and I mean nothing — about this is vacation-like.

You are not working, and getting paid for it. That's about as vacation-like as it gets.

You know it’s not a vacation.

If someone told me I couldn't work, would get paid for the time, and needed to stay home, I'd absolutely consider it a vacation. The fact that you can't spend it at the beach doesn't change that.

You are so right. I think YOU could fix everything and I wish you would.

1. There will be a shutdown.

2. Each party will blame the other.

Now you can go about your day, folks.
