The Senate version of the continuing resolution included more than $6 billion in Ukraine aid.”

Why do we need to fund Ukraine?

Because Russia is trying reform the Soviet Union under the Russian flag. They want to once again challenge the US as the preeminent military force in the world. It is easier to send military aid and money to Ukraine for the very devoted freedom fighters to defend their country than to wait until a new cold war starts because we let Russia once again threaten the know free world as they did throughout the former cold war. Would you rather stop them now or have them threatening your children and grandchildren with a major world war?

Stop being naive and failing to see that Putin's goal is to make Russia overtake the US as the dominant military power of the world.

China is a bigger issue. In addition to North Korea (bad actor potentially irrational actor) and also India. Secondly, when you’re a nuclear power you get certain amount of respect on the world stage (basically don’t mess around when the country’s neighboring/sphere of influence). Ukraine is also probably the most corrupt country in Europe.

You can’t trust him for that.

wtf. you are right. it takes a simple majority to oust him and there are only 20 or so far right representatives.

WHY did the media overplay the risk to McCarthy.

This is such dumb fear-mongering. The Russian military has proven to be a complete joke. If they wanted to challenge Europe they wouldn’t even make it through Poland.

Because if 20 Republicans vote against him, he will need some votes from Democrats to keep his office.

We are in a proxy war with Russia. We don’t want them to re-establish power in the former Soviet territories. So we send money (though much of the funding stays internal to the US in terms of defense supplies), and Ukrainians supply the manpower. Pretty good arrangement, really.

NP. I don’t disagree with you but the Admin and Pentagon and State need to make this case publicly on record and Congress needs to publicly debate the pros and cons of this. If that happens I think most would back it.
Heck, Bush and his henchmen at State and in the military at least did this in justifying a war with Iraq based entirely on lies.

This isn't a state secret but it's not something that you advertise publicly. Our current official support for Ukraine is sufficient. The House already voted for the Ukraine aid. They just needed something to complain about during these past couple days.

Your response is why so many in this country distrust the federal government and just gives populists rhetorical ammo.

Wow- someone who gets it. Many working class Republicans sent their sons to war for Bush and got burned and betrayed with the lies. And in the end, it was all for nothing. Even though the Ukraine war is using Ukrainian men instead of American men this time, there's just no appetite to continue funding more forever wars after funding Iraq/Afghanistan for 20 years.

Brilliant analysis, Prime Minister Chamberlain. We'll have this Hitler chap off our backs in no time once he moves in Poland and his appetite is satiated.

Funny that the Ukrainian men would rather fight back against Putin than let him kill them.

The problem is, after blatant lies about WMD's, I don't really subscribe to this line of fear mongering anymore. You've lost all credibility.

Not sure why the same thing can't happen for the full year appropriations bills that happened with the CR. Senate is largely on board with that approach and I bet enough of the house would be as well (assuming McCarthy can keep his job).

DP - what do you mean, “the same thing”? How does a relatively clean CR compare with 12 separate appropriations bills? Please explain for us smooth brains.

It's 2023. You can listen to Putin himself and his ministers.

In case you missed it, Team WMD is on Putin's side in this.

Who do you think China is trying to ally with? Seriously.

20 Republicans can't elect an alternate Speaker. The 20 anti-government Rs can faff about voting for Donald Duck and failing to elect someone, while the Democrats point and laugh, like they did before MAGA gave in and elected McCarthy the first time. What chance is there they could elect someone else? Who?

China’s economy is collapsing. The USA needs to support Ukraine. I know some Americans have tired of Democracy, but it’s the best form of government. Russia is the most corrupt country in Europe.

This is all trumps fault I think about him 24/7, ugh. What do you think he’s having for breakfast this morning? This country is ruined bc of trump and I can’t get him out of my head!!! Also Ukraine is sooooo democratic! I love how Zelensky has cancelled any free and fair elections - he is a pillar of democracy!

You don't know what you're talking about. Neocon Lindsay Graham and company have championed both wars rather extensively.
