This to me seems just like a blame switching move by McCarthy. If Dems don't vote for this because of Ukraine - that's years of campaigning on the issue of - DEMS shut down the US government for Ukraine, GOP was trying to keep it open. Senate Dems seem to be coming out and saying that - that we can't think of Ukraine before the US. IDK where the House Dems are at. Really how many Americans care about Ukraine THAT deeply?

Exactly, that's why this is a Democrat shutdown.

PP here - I agree with you, if it shuts down. I'd venture to guess 99% of people don't agree with either of us.

In any event I and many other govt people just want to know how this is gonna go without someone grandstanding about our children's futures or whatever.

Ukraine is a MAJOR foreign policy activity of the Biden admin. I don’t agree necessarily with how our aid to Ukraine has unfolded. But it is not really tenable to use the CR as a way to strongarm the Biden admin on a key policy.

So if the House and Senate pass a CR without Ukraine $, will Biden sign it? Or not?

Why tho? If this is so clear, get the house to pass it with their republican majority. Wait? They can't? Exactly.

Also, this fantasy spin ignores this bill coming up Saturday late afternoon. All anyone has done for weeks is wait for Rs to do any work. This is a Matt Gaetz shutdown and he's what everyone sees leading your party.

The CR is going to fail. Jeffries is trying to ensure that the American public put full blame on the Republicans for not getting a budget or CR passed. He started with the arguments that in the previous Congress, The Ds had the same slim majority and still passed a lot more legislation. He's also pointed out pointed out instances where the R House members actually voted for things that a majority of Americans and their constituents disagreed with. And now, he's pointing out the many social programs including poor, children, etc that the Rs were trying to slash like 30% off may of the social safety net.

He's trying to ensure that the blame for the shutdown is on the Rs first, the HFC second and put pressure on them to relent to get the government open again. It's pure political posturing.

Besides buying time for their staffs to get them bullet points on the CR, is he also signaling to Dems how to vote here?

You don't really read very well. It is a House Freedom Caucus shutdown, full stop.

Everyone is trying to find a way to get around the blockade of about 20 extremists who would rather burn everything down than actually work to get the government running. They don't care about the military, the poor, the unemployed, and the majority of Americans who rely on services, protection and funds from the American government.

McCarthy really needs to find a way to get bipartisan legislation passed that completely ignores these extremists. The HFC is about as anti-American and destructive a group as you can get.

1. There will be a shutdown.

2. Each party will blame the other.

Now you can go about your day, folks.
