It actually is. Years ago, we told them we would defend them in exchange for their disarmament. They did their part. We are doing our part. It also benefits us directly, now and in the future. Have a noticed the pleasant dropoff of trolls on the Internet?

We just pledged to seek UN help in the Budapest Memorandum, not to finance a multiyear war.

Russia has proved to everyone that they are a joke. No one should be scared of them. And China hasn’t fought a war since 1979, so there’s no way they’d be capable of annexing Taiwan.

Switching my paid vacation to November instead of now. Fine by me.

Not sure why the same thing can't happen for the full year appropriations bills that happened with the CR. Senate is largely on board with that approach and I bet enough of the house would be as well (assuming McCarthy can keep his job).

Apologize for what? A shutdown looked far more likely than not.

Calling people who saw beyond the drama and knew there wouldn’t be a shutdown “trolls.” The optimists were just smarter, I guess.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Some folks are just better than others at this.

Knock it off. You just made a lucky guess this time. Why are you so needy for applause?

Nope. Not a guess at all—just a reasoned, rational prognostication. Moving forward, please, everyone out there, don’t label those with reasonable contrary views “trolls.”

DP - if you and the other “optimists” hadn’t been so smug and condescending, you wouldn’t have gotten the backlash you did.

DP. You’re being absurd. Do you think this is some kind of fight with your sister?

The “optimist” certainly seems to think so.

Uh, maybe next time don’t use terms like “resident optimist troll.” Nothing trollish about having a solid, accurate take on this.

You got lucky this time.

It’s not really about me, although I am a first-rate observer of this Nation’s politics. It’s about the country.

Are we going to keep using this one, or should we start an Official November 2023 Shutdown thread?

Should probably start a new one when the time comes, since this one is 123 pages long 😂

I’m hoping the Dems cut a deal to keep McCarthy in place as speaker even if the MAGAs call for his ousting and he gets all the aprops passed without the drama
Anonymous
but here the gag - there aren't enough votes to oust McCarthy. there never was

Bennet (D-Colo.) over his concerns that the bill does not include additional Ukraine aid, a Democratic aide said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss ongoing conversations. The Senate version of the continuing resolution included more than $6 billion in Ukraine aid.”

Why do we need to fund Ukraine?

Because Russia is trying reform the Soviet Union under the Russian flag. They want to once again challenge the US as the preeminent military force in the world. It is easier to send military aid and money to Ukraine for the very devoted freedom fighters to defend their country than to wait until a new cold war starts because we let Russia once again threaten the know free world as they did throughout the former cold war. Would you rather stop them now or have them threatening your children and grandchildren with a major world war?

Stop being naive and failing to see that Putin's goal is to make Russia overtake the US as the dominant military power of the world.
