Yes, I'll lie about our family's travel because it's nobody's business what we do when our kids aren't in school.

Deal with it.

You may lie and still sleep well at night, but I'd prefer to be honest. I guess I'm just a better person than you.

Maybe you are.

Your sense of self-righteousness plus $4 will buy you a latte.

Definitely a better person - I'm not encouraging my kids to lie. What terrible parenting and values. "Hey kids, going on vacation is SO important that we are going to risk your health and the health of your classmates. If you or one of them dies from COVID, oh well, at least I got my vacation." Seriously messed up.

NP but is this really how you see things? Leave the DMV and you will kill people with COVID, but stay in the DMV ( which includes the cluster that is the Eastern Shore) and you are an honest good person who won’t kill anyone.”

Alone in a cabin in the deep woods of Maine = DANGER. Open mouth kissing party on the Eastern Shore = healthy, family-friendly alternative.

its so easy ppl

NP, but it's just the pandemic morality identity that some have adopted. I suppose the uncertainty of the pandemic made people need to cling to rules to make them feel safe, not matter how non-sensical the rules. The added bonus is getting to look down on others!

I personally didn't need a pandemic to look down on others who lie and encourage their children to do so! If you all want to go to Florida and get COVID, go for it. Just don't give it to my kid. I don't care if you kill your own kids.

NP. Wow. You don’t sound like a particularly good person either.

lol but she's a SAINT. a rule-abiding saint. you see, she will not lie because that is BAD, but kids dying is a-okay if they aren't hers! this is like southern baptist church lady logic. surely jesus would have agreed.

And here is the problem: the need and want of a vacation. You should have taken one when your kids were all doing DL last year in the fall. Two weeks at the beach was fantastic. Need I say anything else?

ooo this is my favorite new argument. "You should follow the rules now; you had a better time to not follow the rules in the past! rule following is important!"

You're putting people at risk now that covid restrictions have been lifted; you should have traveled while the restrictions were in place and we were trying to protect everyone by not traveling. We need to keep people safe!

This reminds me of the peope who got the vaccine early because they claimed lactose intolerance as a preexisting condition telling people to wait their turn. The people getting screwed are the people who have been doing the right thing all along. But we're selfish for saying two years is too long.

I would like to know WHICH rule the rule-follower will follow (3 or 7 days?), since the rules aren't clear.

This rule doesn't ban vacations. It nonsensically bans travel to certain places (like, Dewey Beach, Delaware) but allows it to others (like, Virginia Beach, Virginia). Maybe stop and think for once as to whether this rule makes sense. Can you explain why it's okay for DCPS students to go on vacation to the Maryland portion of the Delmarva, but not the Delaware portion?

Are state borders some sort of magical barrier to covid transmission?

Maybe a better lesson for your kids, rather than slavish devotion to "the rules" is to critically think about whether certain rules make sense.

My child will be at an unmasked indoor event in FL in fall. I sure as hell wouldn't want him around a kid in school has done the same. We'll follow the regulations, even if that means missing school sadly.

I think the vast majority of people who will keep their travel quiet aren’t going to unmasked events in Florida. They are visiting grandma in Pennsylvania, or going to the beach in Delaware. I would hope that most people who are actually doing something risky would abide by the policies. Who wants their kid to be the one that brings Covid into the school?

Well I'm also going to opt out of testing for my kid, so we'll never know if it was my kid!

Same here. My wife wanted us to opt our kids in to testing last year, but I "forgot" to turn in the forms.

Most can't hire a babysitter 5o go out of town. Also, we know visiting vaccinated relatives in their home is Lowe risk. Assuming 9ne doesn't go to inside public spaces.
With all the tourist coming to DC and the locks not being vaccinated in some areas of the DMV it is silly. Pretty sure a trip to Virginia beach, Great Wolf Lodge, Children's museum, a nationals game or indoor dinning is just as much a risk.
They need to stick with the tests. I don't understand how they can legally prevent a child from attending public school if they are not sick and testing negative.

This is currently affecting working parents with kids in daycare, preventing travel to visit family.

But it isn't NEW guidance. I have little empathy parents of DCPS/Charter kids with houses Maine they rented for the whole month of August.

Not true. Before you could get tested 3-5 days and if negative return to school. Not they are removing that option. Never mind if you are dinning indoors which is much higher risk but whatever.

Why should I care about your kids if you don't seem to? It's my responsbility to care that you are prioritizing vacation with your unvaccinated kids instead of keeping them safe? Your logic isn't sound. Either you're putting your kids at risk or not. I think you are but have no control over that. If you think that's bad then you acknowledge that you are putting your kids at risk...so you expect me to care more about your kids then you do? Doesn't make sense.

Enjoy the rest of your summer. 🤣
