I don't know how you sleep at night. A vaccine for kids is a few months away. What is wrong with waiting? I truly do not understand the ignorance here.

Yes, I'll lie about our family's travel because it's nobody's business what we do when our kids aren't in school.

Deal with it.

You may lie and still sleep well at night, but I'd prefer to be honest. I guess I'm just a better person than you.

Maybe you are.

Your sense of self-righteousness plus $4 will buy you a latte.

For summer, we will test after 3 days of coming back and get a negative. That goes by the book for OSSE (but not the DC travel policy).

Maybe for Thanksgiving we just keep them home from school for a few extra days if DCPS is being weird about this.

And here is the problem: the need and want of a vacation. You should have taken one when your kids were all doing DL last year in the fall. Two weeks at the beach was fantastic. Need I say anything else?

Or see family since you know it's the holidays and all.

So, you think we should have travelled at the height of the pademic during lockdown but not now when things are open? That's very odd

ooo this is my favorite new argument. "You should follow the rules now; you had a better time to not follow the rules in the past! rule following is important!"

Definitely a better person - I'm not encouraging my kids to lie. What terrible parenting and values. "Hey kids, going on vacation is SO important that we are going to risk your health and the health of your classmates. If you or one of them dies from COVID, oh well, at least I got my vacation." Seriously messed up.

NP but is this really how you see things? Leave the DMV and you will kill people with COVID, but stay in the DMV ( which includes the cluster that is the Eastern Shore) and you are an honest good person who won’t kill anyone.”

NP, but it's just the pandemic morality identity that some have adopted. I suppose the uncertainty of the pandemic made people need to cling to rules to make them feel safe, not matter how non-sensical the rules. The added bonus is getting to look down on others!

I personally didn't need a pandemic to look down on others who lie and encourage their children to do so! If you all want to go to Florida and get COVID, go for it. Just don't give it to my kid. I don't care if you kill your own kids.

My child will be at an unmasked indoor event in FL in fall. I sure as hell wouldn't want him around a kid in school has done the same. We'll follow the regulations, even if that means missing school sadly.

I think the vast majority of people who will keep their travel quiet aren’t going to unmasked events in Florida. They are visiting grandma in Pennsylvania, or going to the beach in Delaware. I would hope that most people who are actually doing something risky would abide by the policies. Who wants their kid to be the one that brings Covid into the school?

Well I'm also going to opt out of testing for my kid, so we'll never know if it was my kid!

My question is, how would DCPS even enforce this if they don't have a ready DL option? I suppose if a teacher sends a kid home, that teacher will have to do concurrent, and that's a pain in the ass. You can't just keep kids home for weeks on end without education.

So will I. But I’m still going to do my best, within reason, to make sure it’s not going to be my kid.
