Of course, again I didn’t suggest otherwise. But I would still love to hear how believing something is upsetting, but not heartbreaking is gloating that something occurred. Word usually have some meaning. |
You either are a world class b or have aspergers. |
| Ugh my kids will be so bummed. WTH are we going to do all summer. |
Telling people that their or their children’s feelings over the cancellation are “over the top” or inappropriate is absolutely suggesting that they shouldn’t have those opinions. Words do have meaning. We can agree on that. |
| We are bummed. Just another disappointment. At this point I hope the pools still open for some of summer. I know the companies are filling and treating them. |
| Just told my A meet summer swimming only 10 year old and she was sad but not surprised. I hope these tough conversations go well for others too. Kids are showing remarkable resilience in the face of sadness. |
Why pick just one? And suggesting someone is gloating over camp being canceled would be what exactly? |
This is a weird response. What difference does it make if she's an A meet swimmer. Nobody cares. |

This sucks and at the same time it’s totally not surprising.
I work a lot of PVS sessions or at least I used to before everything stopped. Even with the smaller number of officials and timers there’s just no way to distance. The number of athletes waiting to compete alone is a problem. Pool decks just aren’t that big. I expect that when PVS starts up you will see athlete and splash limits too. Also, summer league is a developmental league. If we’re going to run Saturday mornings only, with athlete limits of 4 per age group, most of those kids are on year round teams. If it’s safe to run a meet then let’s let PVS host it instead. But there’s another issue that isn’t getting a lot of attention. At most clubs the summer league team is just one constituency that uses tbe pool and there are other groups that don’t share the same enthusiasm for youth sports. I would guess a number of clubs will see their club boards say that you can’t host 100 or so people from another club for 4 hours at our club even if all the authorities sign off. |

I suspect that this decision to cancel swim teams has been informed by whatever Northam &Co will be announcing tomorrow (Friday, 2pm) about a lot of different activities/businesses re: guidelines.
I'm sure the pool/swim people were involved in creating those guidelines and they must realize that they can't make it work under those terms. Stay tuned for the big reveal -- Friday at 2! |
Really good point. Kids are being penalized the most, when they are the least at risk. |
The NVSL did not/does not have any info about what will be announced tomorrow. No inside info. The board was hoping they would hear something last Monday. They tried to get info but there wasn’t much being given. The person I know involved with the board didn’t even know the governor will be revealing guidelines tomorrow. I’ll be sure to tune in. I hope the pools can open of gyms and such will be allowed. |
Social distancing by adults, on a golf course, is far easier than in/around a pool with kids. There is really no comparison. |
Penalized? Huh? It’s not a punishment. It’s a restriction based on what is the best interests of the group. Golfers go off in groups of four for the entire duration. That’s less than the 10 in a group requirement. When can you ever have 4 kids swimming in a swim team? Golfers are adults and will follow guidelines and understand 6 feet means 6 feet. Golfers could wear masks the whole time. Golfers can stand apart the whole time, unlike swimmers who are gathered on the deck or edge waiting take off. It’s sad, sure - but not because kids are penalized. It’s sad because it can’t work this year. |
| Just go out of state until the pandemic is over. There are plenty of states opening up. |
