Your dogs are NOT members of the family

Thanks for the update, I'm glad you had a nice dog-free event!

That said, we don't bring them everywhere with us. Just like the kids.

OP thank you for the story! Great writing. And good for you standing up for yourself and niece. Your relatives pretty entitled!

Unless the papers are from the ADA they mean squat! Those support animal certificates are not service animal certificates. Only service animals are legally protected. (FYI, per ADA guidelines, only dogs and mini horses can be service animals, so cats are not legally protected in a public space if a shop owner kicks them out.)

They are relevant for housing purposes, per the Fair Housing Act.

OP, thanks so much for the follow-up! So often on DCUM I'll find myself a little emotionally invested in a situation only to never hear the outcome because the OP ghosted. Your follow-up was highly entertaining and satisfying. Thank you!

I want to be friends with OP. She calmly deals with more drama than a shakespeare festival with tact, humor and maturity. Well done!

Good job, OP! And DH should get a pat on the back too! Are we related? Your MIL sounds like my mom for taking credit for stuff she had nothing to do with. Ugh. Good luck to you!

How are niece and SIL doing now? Will they attend Thanksgiving at the crazy aunt's house or will they vacation with you *wink*?

BTW you should send a group email with a picture of your dog's return from doggie day care vacation and comments from doggie about how much fun it was over the weekend.

Thanks, OP! Very satisfying update!

Yes they are.

By the same token it is well within the bounds of good taste to restrict attendance. Sometimes it’s all adult no kid. Sometimes all kid no adult. Sometimes no kids under 10. It’s all good and you shouldn’t be questioned about it. Ever.

OP, you are awesome.
