When a celebrity in person really underwhelms you

He's 6'2". Maybe you saw a look a like shorty?

I used to date the short version of a well known celebrity.

I went to college with a look-alike tiny Brad Pitt.

Schwarzenegger is not 6'2". I've run into him a couple of times, back when he lived (or visited) DC regularly. I'm 5'8", and he was much closer to my height then that. Most of these guys lie and are made to look taller on film. He was huge, though.

I also flew from Bangalore to Frankfurt sitting next to Richard Gere--stood next to him a few times. He's quite a bit smaller than the 5'11" on his bio, too. He was quite nice, but pretty scruffy looking.
agreed, i just looked up the height of a c level celebrity I know, and he’s listed 4 inches taller than his actual height.

Schwarzenegger had a history of body building competitions where height/weight was well documented. Maybe most celebrities can get away with fibbing a bit about their stats but I don't think that was possible for a guy like Arnold. I do wonder if maybe you ran into a look a like.

Hmmm. Actually, I just looked up Maria Shriver's height and she is reportedly 5'5". I am 5'5" and I happen to have a 6'2" son who towers over me. Arnold does not tower over Maria even in the pictures of them when they were young. Unless she was wearing stilettos in all of those photos, there does not appear to be a 9" difference in height. Maybe half of that at most.

You seem to be right, pp. My apologies.

We stayed next door to Rachel Brosnahan on vacation. This was during her stint on House of Cards. She mentioned that she was an actress but we didn’t know that she was famous until after we left and I di some googling.

She and her boyfriend (at the time) had a dog with them and we have dog crazy kids so we spent a good amount of time chatting. She was totally charming and young!

Know the Clintons tangentially, more back in the day than now. When Bill was president he looked just like he did on TV. Big red nose and “hey how you doin” demeanor. Hilllary always seemed like a politician even before she officially was one Chelsea was always kind and gracious. She is also close friends with a relative of mine. I doubt any reports that say she is rude. I’ve never seen or heard that.

I also know Dan Rather relatively well. He is the true old-school gentleman. A nice breath of fresh air with all the dirt bags you hear about in news these days.

Ben Affleck is nice, so is Jennifer Lopez (from the Bennifer days). Jennifer Garner is nice too.

Met Bernadette Peters at a neighbor's party (her nephew was our neighbor/host of party). She is tiny and has the most gorgeous skin - clearly takes very good care of it. Personalitywise, she was basically normal to talk to...seemed a little out of her element at a normal-people party in Pennsylvania.

Gene Siskel came into a shop where I was working in 1995 in NYC. He just seemed normal. I never would have recognized him if somebody hadn't pointed him out.

I knew Chloe Sevigny growing up. She was very sullen/unfriendly as a child, just would stare at you as if you had two heads, and was sort of this waify flower child who wore nightgowns to school as a teenager. Her older brother was nice but kind of messed up, always dressed like Jeff Spicoli and I believe they sent him away to school finally, but he later became some big celebrity DJ and is very wealthy now.

Also knew Kate Bosworth as a teenager right before she started her acting career. Very pretty girl but no ego problems and a mean/queen bee type. I was a youth group leader and she was one of those kids who acts very sweet to adults but then mocks them behind their backs.

Good stuff. I miss Gene Siskel.

John McCain, DiFi, Chuck Grassley, Amy Klobuchar were gems -+ so smart, could discuss so many different issues at drop off a hat and genuinely thoughtful, kind people.

all these political posts are so biased.

How so? This is the only one that seems more balanced.

DP, fellow former congressional journalist and will add that Warren was weird and terse in evading hallway interviews. Al Franken mostly declined impromptu questions too. He was uptight and not fun to cover at all.

I knew Warren back when she was a professor at Harvard back before there was any talk of her going into politics and she was very nice -- gave off this mom vibe, like mom who knew the bankruptcy code backward and forward!

Elena Kagan was my professor too -- she was really intimidating. Like the smartest person I ever met. I remember thinking that she would or should be on the Supreme Court. I should have written that down then, to show that I predicted it.

I never thought Warren would end up in politics. I always thought she'd just have a well-respected, distinguished but quiet career at HLS.

I used to see him running in Central Park quite a bit, once or twice with a trainer who I knew (ex of my friend) and at a couple races. He seemed a bit dick-ish but the NYC running scene seemed to bring out the dick in lots of otherwise nice people.

Agreed; I used to live in NYC and I have spotted him, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and a long time ago, JFK Jr. running in the park. Also saw John Cusack riding a bike there once. Woody Allen walking (shuffling) many times.

Pre-Congress, Franken once screamed at me because he was upset he hadn''t gotten some attention he thought he merited. He's an ass and I'm glad he's out.

Anonymous wrote:Salman Rushdie saw and stoppede to point out is dropped my credit card at St Pancras Station. He didn’t say anything but when I made eye contact to thank him there was an air of importance around him even while dressing pretty scruffy. He is also shorter in person.

Saw Keira Knightly out with her DD once and she looked very normal and shy. I barely recognised her. Though her jawline really stood out...it’s not as attractive in person as it is on film.

What an odd thing to say when he helped you out. Maybe you're just not used to people with different accents than your own?

Np. This Salman Rushdie description is really interesting to me. OP said he didn't speak, so your accent comment is off the mark. What are you irritated with/offended by?

I watched many interviews of Salman and saw him a lot on Bill Mahr's HBO show. That to me is his personality, not mean, not superior---it is his personality and manner of speaking. He is very satirical and loves dark comedy. He also probably has been more cautious ever since he had that Fatwa issued against him in the late 80s. Publicity he has said makes an author feel naked, like undressing in public since writing is such a private/solo act.
