How about free health care? My daughter needed to see a specialist at Children's. The best I could do was get her in to see a nurse practitioner because the doctor appointments were booked for months. I get there and we are literally the only English speaking family in the waiting room. We receive no subsidies and are paying out-of-pocket more than $20,000 a year for health insurance and I can't get my kid into a specialist but all of the immigrants have appointments with the actual doctors and better coverage than us.

You are the definition of a racist. You do not know anything about these families. You have NO way of knowing these families' immigration status, which doctor they are seeing, how long ago they booked the appointment, or what they pay for their health insurance or healthcare.

Not PP... I think the US economy is a lot better off in terms of the availability of low skilled jobs.

Like others have stated, if businesses didn't hire illegal immigrants, they'd stop coming here. So really, it's the fault of the people who hire them. I can't blame people for wanting a better life for themselves, and their children.

The US, for all its faults, is also less corrupt than most of the countries south of the border.

I don't dispute that the US is overall better. My point is that there are other options eveN for those in danger which is a minority. I know quite a few immigrants (I am one also) and none of them *had* to be here like their life depending on it or something. All would survive and lived decent lives in their home countries.

I'm an immigrant (yes, legal), too, from a war torn country. My family escaped the kind of poverty that most people in this country will never now. I don't know what all of the illegal immigrants' lives were like in their home country, but I figure it was quite desperate in order for them to risk life/limb to illegally cross the border.

That crossing is dangerous. Many die in the hopes of reaching this country. I figure if they are willing to sacrifice their lives for a better life than their lives at home must've quite desperate indeed.

Most illegals immigrants come through visa overstays. Not sure they ever crossed dangerous borders and it seems they could afford travels and visas. The stereotype of desperate hard working immigrants fighting for life is incorrect (and very annoying to me as it does not apply at all). I am sure it describes some people but whether that is even a majority of highly questionable.

I wouldn't say I "defend" illegal immigration per se. But I do feel some sense of empathy and humanity for these people. I wouldn't be in favor of rounding them up and deporting them. I think we should aim for some sort of revision to immigration laws.

There are illegal immigrants here from Canada. They "pay" for their care here the same way illegal immigrants from MX do. The difference to that PP is that she would never assume a white person speaking English in that dr's office could possibly be an illegal immigrant as easily as she assumes that a Hispanic person is.

For all she knows, that Hispanic person could be a legal immigrant. That was really the point.

I have a friend - Asian American - married to a white European. Some stupid white lady called that Asian American woman a mail order bride as she was passing by. And the funny part - the Asian American women was born here (as were her parents), and the white man was still in the process of getting his green card.

I was at the DMV in Arlington renew my license. There were so many people wandering around asking questions in Spanish, eyes really big and wide like "oooh please help me, kind people." I think they expected us to be paying for a translator for them! LOL. One old white man helped translate...was surprised he was the only one willing to help.

Or maybe he was the only one who spoke Spanish!! This is America.....it's not like everyone is bilingual.

Please, illegal alien kids get FREE school and English to become bilingual. Money that could be spent teaching legal children another language which all other countries do. Not us. Lets keep funding ESOL instead and giving illegal aliens two languages. Try to find any other country who not only allows illegal aliens to go to school for free but spends billions in legal citizen's taxes to feed and teach them to become billingual for free.

How about free health care? My daughter needed to see a specialist at Children's. The best I could do was get her in to see a nurse practitioner because the doctor appointments were booked for months. I get there and we are literally the only English speaking family in the waiting room. We receive no subsidies and are paying out-of-pocket more than $20,000 a year for health insurance and I can't get my kid into a specialist but all of the immigrants have appointments with the actual doctors and better coverage than us.

You are the definition of a racist. You do not know anything about these families. You have NO way of knowing these families' immigration status, which doctor they are seeing, how long ago they booked the appointment, or what they pay for their health insurance or healthcare.

Please, everyone knows that illegal immigrants are a drain on the health care system. It's not like it is a big secret or something.

Nope. You probably pay $25 co-pay for an office visit. Get back to me when you have to pay $150-250 for the very same visit and that's after paying $1000 per month premium. Let's see how open-minded you are when you realize that you are subsidizing everyone else and their five kids.

Being sympathetic to the plight of others is noble. But the US has only limited resources and charity begins at home. I agree that we need to get a better handle on illegal immigration, but building an expensive wall and breaking up families is not the way to do it. I'm a teacher so I work with many undocumented families - some who've been here for a decade or longer. It is really difficult to fix your status once you've overstayed a visa (and overstays count for 40% of undocumented immigrants.) They would be required to travel back to their home country and then apply to come back, which can take anywhere from six months to several years. For example, I have one parent who was brought here as a kid, has been married to a citizen for eight years, has two children and another one on the way. What would you suggest? She is currently working here legally under DACA. Send her back because her parents brought her here when she was 8, break up her family? Send her back pregnant without prenatal care?

If that person has been married to a citizen for eights years, she has nothing to worry about it, and you know it. Marriage to the US citizen wipes all sins.

They are required to go back to their home country and apply for permanent resident status through marriage, but they are required to apply from their home country. Unless you are an immigration attorney, I suspect it's you that is unfamiliar with the law. I know of three married couples who had to do this.
