| I'll preface this by saying I did NOT vote for trump. But how can anyone defend illegal immigration? Why would anyone bother to come here legally if there are zero repercussions for taking the easy route and not going through the process? Genuinely wondering. |

Democrats support it because they are under pressure from the Hispanic lobby and want their votes.
Republicans go along with it because they are cheap labor that business wants. |
| Bernie/HRC voter here. Child of immigrants. I do wish we had tighter border controls and a more efficient immigration system. But I do not favor harsh or inhumane treatment toward families who already have people here. It's counter productive. |
both of the above are good posts. Didn't expect to see that on here

Same, especially for children who were brought here as kids, grew up as Americans and then they find out they are not. That's just cruel. And they are not that nany that it would make a huge difference to give them a green card. |
| Vast majority of illegal immigrants work 5x harder than the average native born American. |

1) human empathy. These people come here because their economic or political situations are awful. The illegal part isirrelevant to me because there are few options for 'legal' immigration. I care about others and their suffering. I can't emphasize this enough. I'm actually shocked how little empathy our country is exhibiting these days. 2) America is a nation of immigrants. Except for slaves and native Americans we all came here more or less for the same reason, usually with discrimination when we arrived. Pretty awful to slam the door now. 3) immigrants add tremendous value to our culture and economy. (see 2). 4) points made above in other posts ..I'm not interested in ripping apart these poor families.
Why do you not care? |
Most likely true but that doesn't change the fact that they violated the law to enter. I can go to Japan and work my ass off but that doesn't change the fact that I broke Japanese laws and that the Japanese government can remove me. |

+1 to all posts above.
Even Trump's company has used illegal immigrants. Yes, I know he probably didn't know, but I'm betting he wanted the PM of the construction projects to find ways to cut costs. Using illegal immigrants is an easy way to cut costs. |
What is inhumane? Sending them back to the country they are legally from? It isn't like we torture them or put them in jail like Mexico does with illegal immigrants. No fines either. We just return them. I think it is inhumane for immigrants wanting to come in legally to get bumped by those who sneak across and then expect empathy. |
I just answered but to more directly answer your question...most immigrants cannot come here legally. There are very few openings for such so called legally immigration especially by the poor who are most desperate to come here. Do you know what is going on in central America with gang violence? It is awful stuff and good people there are desperate to escape. America was historical a refuge fir the desiderate. That means something to me. |
Honestly, how do you know that? That is such a stereotype I am so sick of hearing. They are CHEAP labor that put LEGAL American businesses who have to pay minimum wage out of work. Just because you are cheap labor does not mean you work harder than Americans. When was the last time you saw a white landscaping company? It isn't because they don't want to do it anymore. It is because companies that hire illegal immigrants pass over slightly cheaper rates to families who hire them and take in more money overall because they pay their employees pennies. It is so corrupt. |

You do realize that some of these illegal immigrants will get a bullet to their head if they return to their country, right? Read about the illegal children coming by themselves - nearly all were witnesses to crimes or had their entire families executed. Have some empathy, FFS. You're American. Does the Statue of Liberty mean nothing to you? |
| Another serious question, why don't these people become legal citizens? |
