So let them all in. Isn't fair they leave people behind in violence and they sneak in here. Seems pretty selfish to me. Help your country. Hey, what about Sudan. Should we take them all in too? It's much worse there than El Salvador. Just because other countries have their problems/violence/war does not mean you get to break a federal law and expect the red carpet to roll out for you. And why US? Why not Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica? Oh, I know. Because we don't keep tight borders or jail them if caught. All the other countries do. |
or at least apply for a green card? |
| They destroyed schools, took construction jobs from blacks and whites, send most of their money back home (so they're not spending cash in our economy, only taking), destroy property values by getting one house and having 30 people living in it, with dozens of cars parked outside...try having an open house with that. No one wants to buy a house in an illegal immigrant neighborhood. |
Or learn English. For the love of god, learn English!!! Assimilate already. |
The kids coming on their own are not illegal. They are refugees which are different. And please stop with the empathy as you live in plush all white neighborhood. Why don't you ask those that live in Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village how they feel about all the children refugees coming? MS-13. Look it up. You grow up in violence and you come here and stay violent. Great - thanks! |
Um, they can't! That's what immigration reform legislation is all about. Providing amnesty to make these people legal immigrants, green card holders, and citizens! |
| I'm a 1st generation American. Also a Hillary/Bernie supporter. I support a path to citizenship for those who are already here, but realize that at some point we will run out of space/resources for new arrivals, and so I do support the idea of tighter border controls. |
The English bothers me a little bit, but what I really don't get is why they don't become citizens. |
| Guilt from liberals, inexpensive labor from Republucans. |
This doesn't get me wound up the way it used to (20 years ago). Many illegal/legal immigrants are too busy working and taking care of families to really learn English although they would like to. Their kids however do learn English. This idea that the US is going to be a bilingual country in X number of years that we hear triumphantly from the left ("Everyone should learn Spanish - it will be our second language) and in freaked out tones from the right ("Spanish is taking over!!!") is nonsense. In my experience, the immigrants speak varying levels of English, their kids speak English and prefer it to Spanish or whatnot and the grandkids will likely be as hopeless in their ancestral langue as I am in Danish. |
You are just wrong factually about kids being 'refugees.' Legally this is not correct. Unless granted political asylum (and there is no category fir just being a child ) these individuals have no legal path to stay here. It is cruel. |
I was at the DMV in Arlington renew my license. There were so many people wandering around asking questions in Spanish, eyes really big and wide like "oooh please help me, kind people." I think they expected us to be paying for a translator for them! LOL. One old white man helped translate...was surprised he was the only one willing to help. |
OK, I'm going try not to be snarky here, but do you guys understand how this country's immigration system works? When you are here illegally, you can't just say, "Oh, I'd like to be legal now while living here even though I'm here illegaly". The only time they can do that is when the government offers amnesty, which both Reagan and Bush have. Or are you confusing legal immigrant vs. illegal immigrant, and you are asking why don't legal immigrants become citizens? I'm asking this honestly because one of the things I've learned about people during this election is that some Americans are quite clueless about the different statuses. |
What you call guilt I call emphathy. I'm glad my parents raised me to care about others. |
It drives me crazy when I'm in a store, ask someone where to find something, and they clearly don't understand and have to flag a "translator" down. Your lack of ability to speak English effectively stops you from performing your job. |
