College and University Discussion
| It's a school where literature reigns supreme. Majority of students will devour 10 books per class per semester. Not for the faint of heart. Anyone going there is very smart and of course, well read. |
| Back in the day, it was a boys' college, and in my southern hometown, considered above average. It's risen in the rankings. |

| No, never heard of it. Went to a SLAC in the NE. Some people mention basketball - not a fan. |
| Yes. I attended HS in NC, and some very sharp people I know attended. It has an excellent reputation. It may have less recognition because it is very small & because it is a college (no real graduate program). |
This says more about you than about Davidson. |
| I went to graduate school with several Davidson alums. They were well rounded and highly intelligent and I respect the school. I agree it's more popular and well known in the south but just because it's lesser know up north shouldn't be a detractor. It's also in a nice area. Had I known about it when applying for undergrad myself, I'd have considered it. |
That's just really outdated. I graduated from Williams back in the day, and visited Davidson when my oldest applied to college several years back. It's a very strong school and is well-known in this area, and, increasingly, throughout the country. The kids I know who've applied and enrolled recently are high-fliers. |

| Davidson is every bit as strong from an academic perspective as any of the NESCAC schools. Kids go there are have to work very hard. |

| I may have already posted on this thread, but I went there 20 years ago. What it did for me was totally expand my sense of the world. I came from a southern backwater & have a lower class family background. Coming out of Davidson I was so much more well rounded than I ever imagined, and it's stayed with me all these years. It's truly a community of scholars. |
