Have you heard of Davidson College?

I first learned about it from a snooty female graduate. Grew up in the NE and never heard of it before that.

Yes, it's a very good school.

Yes, although I've been through the college process in recent years with my kids. It's ranked 9th on US News LACs although I think that's a relatively recent phenomenon. I went to Carleton, which is ranked 8th, and many people haven't heard of that either. I don't take offense though!

Did most of your colleagues attend large universities?

Bit of a mixed bag. A few big ten schools, a couple VA people (UVA and W&M), a couple ivies. The look on her face though. It was like we were neanderthals who had never heard of Princeton or something. lol

I think Davidson is more well-known among people who attended/looked at attending SLACs. It's a pretty competitive SLAC. If you were set on a big school, or an in-state school, or an Ivy, I can see how you wouldn't know about it.

Every basketball fan has heard of it.

Yes, I consider it a good school and heard about it growing up. But I am from Virginia, so the push for good students where I grew up was to go to William and Mary or UVA, didn't seem logical to pay for private school tuition to go to a small school outside of Charlotte that is on par with the better instate Virginia schools.

Yes, and I'm from this area.

Sure it's a small school, but it often makes it to March Madness, which is why a lot of my friends have heard of it. Maybe the folks who've never heard of it don't follow the tournament?

It's a good school but not knowing of it is not on par with not knowing about Williams. Williams has a MUCH better national reputation.

Good point. Home of Steph Curry. They must have mentioned Davidson every game during the NBA playoffs last year.

15:57 here, and I'd completely forgotten that Curry went there (I don't watch NBA, just college). That's another reason people should have at least heard of it.

Davidson has consistently been ranked either in the top top 10 or just outside of it at least since I was looking at schools in the mid-90s (I didn't go there but my -- extremely bright-- friend did).

Yes, I've heard of it. A high school classmate went there.

Yes, from 25 years ago. Good school then.

I've heard of it, but off the top of my head I couldn't tell you where it is or anything about it.
