The one question every single person in Europe asks me

That is why people are saying they are from Canada.

Pilots, truck drivers, TSA, nurses, teachers … could shut the country down if they want to. Collectively we could do it, but sadly collectivism is not an American trait.

This will be our downfall.

On the other hand, our society is set up so that Americans live in fear. We fear losing our jobs because our jobs give us access to healthcare. We fear people with guns. Trump is programming us to fear brown people.

Our collective fear means we’re afraid to strike.

But what would be the end result? Does anyone really think Trump and Vance and everyone else in line after them would voluntarily step down? They will not give a crap about strikes.

So true. Strikes will only hurt businesses and other people, not the government.

The vast majority of people who are appalled by Trump don't want to be associated with progressive activists. It's a problem. Most Americans don't care for the looting and burning and pro-terrorism slogans that progressives tend to bring. And progressive looters and nihilists will take over any march. So those street protests tend to work in favor of Republicans - see the Gaza and BLM protests. It's not effective.

The position ‘protests aren’t effective’ is….. ridiculous.

You may not have liked blm - but was it effective? Hell yeah. Try to find me one person who doesn’t know what blm stands for. Try to find me one cop who doesn’t know about the blm protests.

The idea that we are powerless feels so incorrect as to be troll worthy. We aren’t. Remember the Arab spring? Remember the anti apartheid protests? Remember Selma? No one was like ‘oh but we might be associated with the black panther party’ gtfo

Dude, BLM was not effective. That's why the majority of this country voted for Trump, the neo-Nazi puppet.

Agreed. BLM achieved nothing other than gaining a lot of antipathy towards the left.

Oh goodie! MAGA trolls bonding rituals— in real time!

I’m not remotely MAGA. I am liberal and voted Harris. But I think the way the BLM thing manifested itself was very damaging to the left. There were a lot of right-wing shit stirrers in the mix though, some of whom were caught on video.

do you think one european person gives AF about what you are saying on their own behalf?

I am british and my friends are too. the NHS strikes and people die. ambulance workers strike and people die. teachers strike and kids are home for weeks. in france, airport workers strike and no one flies to certain airports that whole time.
who CARES if it 'looks good'. It's not meant to 'look good'.
America needs to grow a freaking spine.

Ah. You’re British and your friends are too. How often do your unarmed police taze, gas, or shoot people like you during strikes? America is freaking violent. Apples vs Oranges.

Actually if you google you’ll see that police in the uk are not non violent during protests.

Listen we have to get out there. I’ve been gassed. It wasn’t great but I’m not going to let it stop me and neither have protesters in times past. This government is moving us towards being a dangerous autocracy where you’ll get indiscriminately arrested, deported and possibly experience violence whether you protest or not so may as well do it now and try to beat back the insanity even a little bit

I don’t disagree with you. I also recognize that as a slow moving Black woman, I’m likely to be a target in ways that many others won’t be. I do plan to be out there. I also recognize that “we” don’t necessarily share equal risks.

One might say something similar to the Trump administration: why don't you worry about your own shit before judging Europeans?

The country voted for Trump and wanted this. I don’t know why some on the left are projecting their outrage on the country. Most Trump voters and Americans are not angry with trump

"The country" writ large did NOT vote for Trump. The US has a population of 340.1 million. In 2024, Trump got 77.3 million votes, winning the popular vote by 49.9 percent (FYI Biden got 81.2 million votes in 2020). When you add the number of voters who voted for a 3rd party candidate, more people voted AGAINST Trump than voted for him.

Given the rapid rate that Trump and Co. are f****** everything up, it's only a matter of time before Trump's approval rates tank.

Some strikes need to hurt some businesses. Not all. But some. They only care about earnings and are part of the problem in this equation.

Yes, by any means necessary, we must preserve and protect the bloat, waste, and low performers.

You’re funny! DOGE got rid of large swaths of people, including many people who were so good at their jobs that they had recently been promoted. President Musk didn’t bother to look for low performers or bloat or even waste. He just likes to break things. They also got rid of a ton of veterans — which I hope gets the attention that this deserves.

244 million are eligible to vote. About 55-60% actually vote.
I still find it hard to believe that Biden got 12 million more votes than Obama.

Getting a promotion in the federal government is a joke. Search the careers section here for feds griping that "my boss is an idiot" or "my boss was promoted because of politics," etc. Our government is bloated and inefficient. Using a scalpel would have the same result of whining, fearmongering, and would be tied up in court cases forever. There was no choice but getting rid of large swaths at a time. The fattest hog squeals the loudest when you pull away the trough.

So far the Democrats’ approval ratings have fallen a lot further than Trump’s. Americans have started to realize that Democrats don’t like voters unless they…behave.

The reality is that Trump pretty much beat us three times in a row. But we still can’t accept the reality of our unpopularity. We are superior to Republicans in every way. So it “does not compute” that we would be unpopular. Have the voters gotten stupider? Yes. Are we more out of touch? Yes. Have we become more unlikable? Apparently yes.
