"The country" writ large did NOT vote for Trump. The US has a population of 340.1 million. In 2024, Trump got 77.3 million votes, winning the popular vote by 49.9 percent (FYI Biden got 81.2 million votes in 2020). When you add the number of voters who voted for a 3rd party candidate, more people voted AGAINST Trump than voted for him.
