Mindy's face when she said it. Holy cow! How did this not get cut from final.

RIGHT - I think this goes back to that article about how everyone on their podcast production team HATED her. I am confident that everyone on her TV show production team also hates her. Mindy is never doing Megsie a favor ever again.

Ok I have not watched this show and am not a Meghan fan or anything, and actually I did not even take my DH's name, but I have zero problem with this.

It's not her name. People call her Meghan Markle all the time but it's legally not her name. She took her husband's name and since her husband belongs to this stupid family where their names are dictated by their title, they are "the Sussex family." Yes that part of it is dumb but it is still her name and it's okay to ask people to call you by your actual name and not by whatever they feel like calling you.

I used to have to correct people all the time when I got married and didn't take my husband's name. A lot of people made assumptions and wanted to call me Mrs. [his last name]. And when I'd say "nope, I'm still [my name]" I know plenty of people thought I was being annoying. But I was just letting people know what my name is so that they could call me by my actual name. Are you supposed to just ignore it when people call you the wrong name for years? I don't get what you all think she should do.

It's also annoying of Mindy to be saying her first and last name all the time and referring to Meghan in the third person there. It makes Mindy sound like she just read tabloids all the time and has no manners. That's an off-putting way of interacting with someone.

1. It is patently, painfully obviously oozing money in a way that will never be aspirational because 99.9999999% of the people will never live this way. These acres of countertop! These lush Montecito meadows! These arresting views of miles and miles of nature and nothing else. Come on. You know you need millions to live this way, dress this way, (but not, it must be said, eat this way, because this eating is quite pedestrian).

2. Meghan is a terrible actress in this show. She is utterly lacking in authenticity. She speaks with such affectation that I don't know how anyone can look at her and not roll one's eyes. It is just so....fake.

2 is the bigger problem. There are rich people in this genre that showcase a rich lifestyle…Giada with her inherited wealth and jetting between LA and Italy, Ina in the Hamptons with the Wall St husband, etc. Even the pioneer woman’s ranch is because she married into one of the largest landholding families in America. But they all have some knowledge, authority and authenticity that Meghan lacks.

The name her husband and the kids were using was Mountbatten-Windsor. They only changed it to Sussex last year.
And I am not sure Meghan ever called herself Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor or stated she had changed her last name?

lol. I thought she was awfully heavy handed with those flower sprinkles. Mindy looked so bummed to have them all over the frittata.

Flower sprinkles are already all over the stores and Amazon. Everyone shills them because they’re literally a tiny jar of cheap (like cheap marigolds) flowers.

Just like Sarah Ferguson never went by Sarah York, even when married to Prince Andrew.

And people refer to Kate as Kate Middleton

And Beatrice and Eugenie's husbands still use their own last names as well.

Some in the family use Philipps, Tindall, and Mountbatten-Windsor.

Outside of the working royals in the immediate RF - I am not sure if anyone uses a spouse's title as their last name.

And given Meghan and Harry wanted nothing to do with the RF when they left...it seems even odder that just now she is starting to use it.

And how would Mindy know? There doesn't seem to be any sign she has called herself Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor until 2024 or Meghan Sussex since.

For 1, it’s tens or hundreds of millions. Massive acreage with vistas, very large actual botanical gardens plural with staff to maintain, extremely large quasi farm level herbal, fruit and vegetable gardens. Separate cottages for guests. This is absolutely crazy. Meghan’s house has 16 baths and was on the market for years, and reduced in price by half, but still cost $15 million and Harry complained about plumbing in her Cut interview. They have never had a photo shoot or show at their home, purportedly for privacy - but maybe they can’t front that they can maintain such an estate at the Oprah level because quite literally maybe 30 people on Earth can, and they can’t.

The show seems crazier after the address to Congress. Less stress-relieving food porn and more what is this incompetence and why is there so much tension in these beautiful settings?

So is she saying she wants to be called Meghan Sussex?

That’s my question. What exactly does she wanna be called? What is the last name she shares with her children (which means so very much to her she can barely contain her emotion)?

She is desperate to be called the Duchess of Sussex lol

+1. When has she ever called herself “Meghan Sussex” on a podcast or TV? Her presence is usually announced by someone else as Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex and then she introduces herself as Meghan. That’s why people aren’t sure. She used to be Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor and I never heard her introduced as that either. Here she is saying her last name is Sussex and her first name is Meghan but never says it together as Meghan Sussex. It’s because she wants the Duchess in there.

The Guardian deemed the show “toe curlingly unlovable.”

Of course they can't afford it. Harry complained in the Oprah interview years ago that his daddy cut him off. He had his money from his mom but that only goes so far for so long. He has no marketable skill and she is an unlikeable B list actress. Their arrogance outstripped their earning ability which is why she is trying out this faux Martha Stewart angle. I hope it works out for them because I don't think Will or Kate will ever welcome them back in the fold. Meghan has not yet figured out that her connection with the BRF is the only thing that made people interested in her.

Anonymous wrote:Why would I buy jam and housewares from Meghan Markle? I mean, I like her fine, but there’s zero connection in my mind between her and those things. I agree with PPs who suggested fashion or a return to acting. I WOULD possibly buy a MM top or accessories.

this! she should do a meghan "Sussex" or classier- "Mountbatten-Windsor" branded verson of like jennie Kayne, it would still be california but more Johanna Ortiz inflected then tech bro blonde mom (like JK). she has excellent sartorial vision- i'd buy/follow the heck out of that. why jams? any jams im buying are from laid off fed workers. this lifesestyle garbage looks like its headed straight to home goods ei. the store full of uneccessary crap that leads to cc debt.

Anonymous wrote:Eh... here are the pros, IMO: She is BEAUTIFUL, and I love her outfits, fashion choices, etc. Montecito is equally beautiful, and I love the aesthetic of the show. I really like Meghan's fashion and wish she would do something in that vein, as I think it would be more authentic.

The cons: she comes off as fake, not just because it is not her house, but she isn't a natural in the kitchen, isn't doing anything exciting entertaining wise, the interactions with her guest are sometimes awkward (with Roy Choi) and sometimes just fake (Mindy Kaling and the last name) and sometimes cringe (the fractured dish making it more beautiful, just like fractured person meghan). She also has a "spot at the table" for everyone... aside from her nuclear family/husband's nuclear family, her former best friends that she ditched, or anyone else who is not famous.

The bigger issue with this type of show is that it is sort of tone deaf to the current economic and political situation going on. It is clear this is an attempt to make their financial situation grow (when they are already rich AF), rather than coming from what she loves to do; she isn't an Ina or a Martha or a Gwenyth, and that comes through.

I don't think most people will spend $$$ on overpriced jams as the federal workforce and adjacent lose their jobs, we abandon Ukraine and other allies, and the economy tanks.

I think the issue is her jams are for some MC American women who are not very good in the kitchen and who don't care about provenance or quality. People who can afford her jam know there are much better jams out there and that celebrity products are often inferior with a mark up.

Can someone please buy the jam and tell us who it's made by?

Kirkland Signature

Heh

kirkland signature products are tagged to the industry leading competition - so i dont think so. She wishes. why didnt she just make and clothes/accessories line? so dumb. she should've done a makeover show with tan france or something and tehy could talk crap about how racist british people are. I dont uinderstand rich people like her- why doesnt she just live her rich life? i'd never talk to a single person that i dodnt enjoy if i was that wealthy. its self perpetuating wealth.
