This is an interesting development. Colombia said they wouldn’t take back their own citizens so Trump is enacting tariffs and other measures.

Personally, I think this is a great move. It is the responsibility of the host nation to repatriate their citizens. I do not understand why Colombia won’t welcome their own people back.

They don’t have any issues taking their migrants back. They are demanding they are returned on civilian flights like humans.

To me, that’s a fair ask.

They're human beings and theyre being treated like animals in aircraft meant for goods, not people. Regardless of your position, it's not too much to ask to have a compassionate deportation for these very scared people. People don't flee if they're safe and have everything they need.

You might want to try reading sometime. The Colombian president is sending his plane to Honduras, not the US, to pick up Colombians who were, for whatever reason, taken there. It’s not even clear that this is connected to Trump’s reaction to Colombia refusing the flights.

UPDATE 2: Petro is indeed not backing down. Colombia will impose 25% tariffs on all goods imported from the US.

He also directs Colombia's foreign trade minister to explore other countries to export to, and promises to support local exporters hurt by US tariffs.

The trade wars have begun.
