It's only February, but so far murders are up 100 percent over last year in DC. If MAGA prosecutors want to take a crack at rounding up and prosecuting violent men in DC, have at it. DC and suburban MD have been in a backslide since after Obama left office because a lot of people in power in these areas have to be “anti-Trump” even if it means supporting policies that damage the quality of life for the majority of their citizens. They tacked way too far left on crime, homeless issues, and illegal immigration because they wanted to prove they weren’t Trump and their regions suffered for it. Before then Obama was a sensible center right Democrat on these issues so the Dems in the area didn’t have anyone to react against and followed his lead.

Yep. I have 2 friends who used to use metro in the past to commute, but when things started to get worse they are driving. One of them attempted to use the Metro with RTO and had been confronted by what you describe on the first day.. entitled teenagers acting “thuggy” trying to start a confrontation.

Exact same happened in NYC with mentally ill and thugs assaulting people and pushing them into subway tracks and down stairs for no reason. Now there is police on every platform.

The Metro needs to have the police presence it had after 9/11 for 5-10 years until things get much safer. I’m talking about cops with bullet proof vests and M-16s, not security guards with reflective vests. We need to make the Metro safe to ride again so more people will ride it.

I am going to call complete BS on the violent crimes lowest in 30 years. Reporting of crimes maybe lowest in 30 years. It’s next to impossible to report a crime as the police are spread so thin. I have had guys working on my house robbed by gun point, had neighborhood guy try to attack me with a pipe, had multiple break ins and a real estate title company steal money from me. I was not able to report any of the physical crimes as officers never showed up when called, even though a gun was discharged in the construction worker robbery. It took me 10 months to get a return call from the Detective in the financial crimes division and he told me now that they know the person that stole the money from me did it to multiple people they were going to pursue arresting her, but he was retiring in 3 weeks and had 2 weeks of vacation he had to use up, so if they didn’t locate her in that week nothing would happen and that the other two detectives in the unit are dealing with 350 calls a day and would likely not have time to pursue it. She stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from people doing real estate closings.

Buses in the area say “fare required”, but what they mean is “law abiding hard working people must pay, and more every year”, while everyone who feels “thuggy”, or is otherwise unwilling or unable can ride for free all day long, getting into paying customers’ faces, because we will do NOTHING. Now this might happen on an isolated line in the middle of the night in other parts of the world, too, but here it is expected, and in broad daylight.
