OP here. This is too cryptic for me. Please, can you explain?

DP. Not sure what that PP meant. Maybe related to the schools several of us sent your way. You didn't answer about how you are getting on but asked about retaking SAT (which would likely gain you nothing). What is the status of those apps? (UMBC, WPI, Clarkson, RH, Muhlenberg, others)? Hope you got or will get these in by today.

PP here. Thanks. That’s exactly what I meant.

Let's cut the OP some slack.
This clearly was not where the OP expected to be and is getting a lot of info.
I know that dealing with an teenager who is overwhelmed is not an easy task. I can imagine raised voices, tears and someone who has shut down. I can not imagine a kid who "put the work in" to get a 3.7 uw/4.6 w and had great EC thinking that they had good targets only to find out that they didn't.
With our adult brains - it is hard to deal with set backs and taking steps forward. With teen brain and teen social media (anyone watch testimony yesterday?) it is a very different situation.

I think the reason posters are concerned is that if OP and her DD act today -- 2/1--when a lot of great schools have their deadlines, their options are measurably better than if they don't.

Why are kids with this type of GPA applying test optional? Our private school in DC is still making it very clear that kids need to be prepping and taking the SAT/ACT 2 or 3 times. I feel like OP made a huge mistake going TO unless their kid is URM or first gen.

If a kid can get a 4.7 GPA they can get at least a 1450-1500 on the SAT with minimal prep.

OP are you choosing to apply to additional colleges, or what have you decided to do?

Exactly. This is the day for music, snacks, and submitting applications since earlier applications didn’t turn out the way they wanted. There is still time to make other options and then there can be time to sulk/be mad/frustrated etc. This is also the time for the parent to explain that sometimes in life we have to pivot and it can be a good thing if you make the most of it!

+1

Lots of posters would like to offer suggestions. It's not too late. Overwhelming, yes. Uncertain, absolutely. But we're here pulling for you. Seize the day.

"at least" -- sure-- 1450 is 97th percentile.
And a 4.7 GPA may mean different things at different schools. And draw on different skills than the SAT does.

But this is why 3 or 4 people said, get the log in and cut and paste some essays in there. Move past the teenage brain to the adult brain. The deadline is now.

+1000. Lots of great suggestions here (save for the "mediocre schools" pp).

OP, stop brand chasing and get to work on chasing an outcome.

Great question. Likely low SATs and grade inflation.

Interesting. Our DC private is really stressing TO and not creating any pressure for kids to test. Their mantra is that “test optional means test optional.”

That is not true for many kids, especially in MCPS which offers +1.0 weighting for a ton of classes.

Plus OP’s kid doesn’t have a 4.7 so it’s not relevant.
