| There are a few rolling admissions schools still accepting applications. I would look for these to see if any might be more appealing than CC. (They would be a traditional college experience as opposed to a CC. And they are mostly state schools so maybe not hugely expensive.) |
| OP is not following directions. |
| #3 seems ill-advised, and more likely than alternatives to result in never enrolling at all. If nothing else, it's a lost year of life; it will be difficult to spend the time in a way which is financially or professionally rewarding in any meaningful way, and if she does eventually enroll somewhere she'll be a year behind all her peers from HS. |
OP here. This is too cryptic for me. Please, can you explain? |
| I wonder if OP is the “in at Purdue CS, spring UMD but not CS” poster…. IIRC that poster had a bunch of reaches on the list, not enough targets. If so OP, the advice you’ve received on this thread to apply to more universities, some of them very good, is spot on. |
My kid with a 3.1 gpa got in after his EA application was moved to RD. He went to a private school. I’d be very surprised if the OP’s kid didn’t get in. |
I am not that OP. My daughter was not accepted to Purdue or UMD. Sadly |
Sorry but I was referring to UMBC. How about Loyola in MD? Lots of merit aid there. My kid got $25k. |
Where was she accepted? |
Sorry for not sharing, I want to keep some privacy as many people she knows read this forum. |
DP, just a guess, but perhaps the PP means that you could get better suggestions with more information, such as your annual budget, test score, and any location or size preferences. |
Can you at least share what type of school she prefers? |
Did she submit any applications last night? Make a plan for schools with even later deadlines? |
These are not particularly mediocre schools mentioned! In fact OP’s DD could have a better experience both academically and socially at some of them. I don’t think OP has indicated major or career goals other than STEM. The details matter - engineering/CS is different than pre-med/bio/Chem. If the latter, I would argue she’s better off at a Wooster or Kalamazoo than UMD in terms of personal attention, good science, small classes and support for the med schol application process. If engineering or CS, obviously you need a school that has those programs but some really good ones like WPI were mentioned. I think the reference to OP not following instructions is that OP should have been cranking out last minute apps with DD, not asking about retaking the SAT. I think OP thinks that if it’s not a big state flagship her DD should just sit it out and I think that’s silly. There are plenty of solid schools her DD can go to and she can always transfer if she wants but it might turn out really well. Take ASU for example, huge school, east to get in, but the honors college is supposed to be really good and you can definitely get a solid education there if you put in the effort. I know a TJ student that went there for the $$$ and is now in a very competitive STEM PhD program. |
DP. Not sure what that PP meant. Maybe related to the schools several of us sent your way. You didn't answer about how you are getting on but asked about retaking SAT (which would likely gain you nothing). What is the status of those apps? (UMBC, WPI, Clarkson, RH, Muhlenberg, others)? Hope you got or will get these in by today. |
