No it doesn’t. Ask honda CRV. Made it to Gaithersburg from SE. once the car turns off you can’t turn it back on but once it starts you are good to go |
Jackie Bensen was 1 reporter that tweeted about it after speaking to people on the scene. Baby was probably sleeping when she went in the shop so she was taking her time. Insane behavior but it happened. What do you think people do in candle/perfume stores? They drift around smelling things... I wonder if the carjackers will turn themselves in like the 18 yr old did for shooting the college student in FH on NYD? Teens often have younger sibs and a sense of justice about poor care kids get, esp if abused or neglected themselves. I was very happy they made sure the baby was safe but not all that surprised. The note was something kids would do, trying to fix, wondered where the paper and pen came from. Did one have school bookbag? Will they be detained at DCYRS to play Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto? Tax payer supplied simulations to enhance their criminal skills. This city would not be believable if a movie. |

Witnesses like shop employees and other customers who had to be even more traumatized than we were just reading about it.
Was it established that the mom is a foreign tourist? Sorry if covered in WP link, for some reason the site is not loading for me. |
1) no weapon used in this crime 2) such crimes often involve SEVERAL armed perps, even if you were LE you are not going to outgun that sitch. 3) shoot as a crime victim and I would NOT expect that to go well for you legally in this city 4) is it really harder to move than to pretend you will play Rambo and in all likelihood lose everything, if not killed yourself, in reality? What if your teens want to go to a movie in Georgetown? Skating? Shopping? 5) there have been murders, robberies and carjackings often in broad daylight in the Georgetown strip for a while now, even during rush hour. 1 man was murdered outside georgetown cupcake around the same time in the evening. maybe people had not noticed change until this had so much publicity? |

Is all the blame here toward the mom warranted? This is what I read:
2D- Kidnapping / Stolen Auto The Second District is investigating a Kidnapping and Stolen Auto that occurred on Friday, January 5, 2024, at approximately 1803 hours in the Unit block of 3000 M Street NW. The complainant was traveling with her four-month-old daughter when a tire deflated on her rental vehicle, a white Jeep. She pulled over in the 3000 block of M St NW and exited the vehicle to ask for help. While outside the Jeep, which she left running, an unknown suspect entered the vehicle and drove away with her four-month-old daughter westbound on M St NW. At approximately 1853 hours, MPD officers received a call that an unknown individual left the child, still in her car seat, in the 1500 block of 28th St SE with a note stating that the baby had been lost from Georgetown. After knocking on the door, the suspect fled. No lookout is available. The homeowners then took the child to the Sixth District Police substation. There is no available lookout for the complainant's vehicle at this time except that it was a white jeep of an unknown make and model. If you have any information about this incident, please contact the Command Information Center at 202-727-9099 or send an anonymous text tip 50411

The homeowner who shot the carjacker in the alley was charged. Months later, the off duty security guard who shot the carjacker was not. The city is getting tired of the carjacking and crime. If things don't change on the LEO and prosecution side, things will start changing on the victim side. |
The end game of liberal extremism: criminals are treated with kid gloves while innocent babies are kidnapped. I hope some moderate (or dare I say Republican) candidates run for office. |
The guy who got charged shot at a kid breaking into unoccupied cars, and the last story I read on it indicated that the kids were unarmed and fleeing when he shot after them. Of course different evidence may come out as the case progresses but if that’s true, there’s almost nowhere that what he did would be considered justified self defense. Completely different circumstances than when someone confronts you with a weapon to jack your car, which is what happened to the off duty security guard who wasn’t charged. |

A few years ago, I was excoriated for saying I never left my kids in the car, ever. I was told I had an anxiety disorder, I was stifling, I’d “have never made it through the 70s and 80s as a parent,” etc., etc. I made the point that, would you leave a precious diamond necklace unattended in a car, and was laughed off.
Welp. WELP. |
A tire was deflated on her car? |
They HAVE been addressing it, just in the opposite way that you talk about. Instead, laws have been weakened re: juveniles and similar attempts were made re: carjacking and related crimes. Had Biden not acted re: the bill a year ago this would not even count as "kidnapping" but "criminal restraint." For that alone, Allen should be recalled. If you think someone who just served 27 years for a cold blooded murder will advocate for stiffer sentences, I have a bridge to sell you. Read the room, in all kindness. From the DC Court of Appeals who have made gun arrests almost impossible, in contravention of SC precedent, on down, those in power act with different goals than you or I have, PP. MANY are former public defenders who act as if they are still in that role, leaving no one advocating for not only victims, but public safety. Bowser tends to "sound" better but does not have as much leverage as those above, and Graves tends to talk out of both sides of his mouth. Career prosecutors are not zealous about protecting all the poor black folks most likely to be victimized by crime. They are more focused on the rights of the criminals rather than finding innovative ways to protect public safety. https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/04/politics/black-prosecutors-dc-gun-cases/index.html It's not getting better. People love simplistic slogans "vote them all out" without understanding that the HR act makes that impossible and without more pro safety candidates lined up. They say "call in the National Guard" without understanding that without prosecution of little benefit and without remembering that the 2 teen girls dragged the Uber Eats driver to his death in Navy Yard literally at the feet of NG troops. Take care of yourselves and your families and focus on what you DO have control over. Ward 3 and metro are not the safety bubbles they were in the 90s due to carjacking being allowed to flourish and the voucher program moving 5,000 people to Connecticut and Wisconsin in a few years time, prioritizing ex-cons, the severely mentally ill and addicts. And, secret, a lot of families with teens who carjack neighbors or steal their cars, looking at YOU, The Brandywine. They are PSH, PERMANENT supportive housing vouchers. People are being held up at gunpoint in City Ridge in the afternoon. Does the Equinox membership still seem appealing and worth it? I had been eyeing it for the new year. |

^ left out Council decriminalizing fare evasion > declining safety within metro system, buses and trains.
Many of the problems in the DMV region have their roots in the actions of the DC Council over the past few years. |
And, those actions have their roots in the votes that so many still give them to this day. Elections have consequences. |
| I 100% guarantee the kids knocked and ran from a house they know--like an auntie, grandma or neighborhood eminence. With a little shoe leather these kids can be identified. And then sure as sh*t they need to be sentenced and I want to hear what education and life skills they will be offered, and what consequences they will face if they don't take advantage of their 2nd chance. We must change the law on these heinous crimes, the anonymity and clean records of youth in this city, and the revolving door. |
