PG Pool

Along those lines, I drove by Adelphi pool this week and it appears to have a sign out for memberships. The website explains a major renovation underway and re-opening next summer (I am not a member there, full disclosure).

Maybe all of these formerly white-only pools are under assessed? Racism is a hard kick.

Incorrect, but nice try.

What is incorrect? PG Pool is a non-profit. Non-profits pay less taxes. Non-profit status is given in perpetuity unless revoked by the state. All true.

Don't live in the area, so don't really care about this pool, but how would non-profit status affect assessments of land value?

Nonprofits pay less property taxes, I believe.

I’m the pp from a few threads ago. Nobody is talking about property taxes paid. The question is why the value of the lane is assessed so low. Stop trying to deflect from the issue.

Serious question, isn’t the assessment of the land used to establish property taxes? I am no expert!

Also, the pool property abuts that culvert thing and perhaps isn’t buildable?

Yup, you're right: assessments impact property taxes. Low assessments = low taxes. There are a bunch of buildings abutting the Levee Trail, so I think it is buildable. Those properties along the culvert have higher assessments. I don't think this is a PG Pool thing, but it very well could be a legacy of racism for all of these private pools in the county.

Can you tell me what address you used to search for Adelphi Pool on SDAT? I searched for 9442 Riggs Rd and nothing came up.

Same. I just used Riggs (leave the # blank) and then looked for the pool...9440 is Adelphi Recreation with 2 records, so perhaps.

LOL don’t disparage the Great Tax Detectives who are going to tax all the pools and save PG county! This will be the biggest story of the summer.

If it’s such a silly idea, why are you so riled up? Lol

I don't think this is just one poster based on what my neighbors opinions.

So put your faces and names out there and be the change you seek. Are you scared?

Maybe some of the people in Mount Rainier should ask the PG Pool members for help on how to promote positive change in their community?

Called on my lunch break. They are looking into it… agreed the assessment seemed odd.

Thank you! I called too and was told that several others have reported this already. Go community!

I am confident that there are multiple other PGC properties that are owned by nonprofits that are in the same boat. Lets make sure the churches, YMCAs, Boy Clubs, other PGC pools, etc pay their "fair" share, whatever that means. Folks here need to get a life.
