I first thought the OPs were just whining about a waitlist. After more posts. I thought the PG Pool members seemed like progressive hypocrites. But then I started to think these members were kinda racist, but now 16 pages later I think they seem like privileged, hypocritical racists who don’t pay their taxes. It just keeps getting worse and worse on here!

For the record, the pool PAYS ITS TAXES. The imaginary kerfuffle here is that DCUM thinks the land has not been assessed at a high enough value. So they reported their findings to PG and it is up to the county to tax the pool more heavily. At which point, the pool will either fold or raise membership fees. The end.

I take it you have never owned real estate in California. Where you can pay wildly different taxes from your neighbors based on when you bought your house. A whole lot of people in CA aren't paying their taxes.

Yikes! Calm down. The members of this weird pool are so emotional. Maybe allow the black people in the county to use your pool for a fee to offset these costs?

Of course but PP seems to be outraged about the idea of fairness and taxes and seems pretty clueless as to how taxes work.

Wow. Just wow. This pool explicitly refused POCs since the 1970s and likely implicitly refused these members for decades after. Do you honestly believe your pool waitlist in race blind?

My elderly neighbor was told that Blacks couldn't join the PG Pool back in the 70s and never felt comfortable joining for years later. Now, there's a 10 year waitlist.

How is that not racist?

Not joining the pool when members reached out to encourage all people of all races to join the pool is understandable and certainly a legacy of racism (although beyond reaching out and being welcoming- which are documented facts- I'm not sure what else could have been done to mitigate that legacy.

Why not prioritize people who live in PG on your waitlist?

Why not bump anyone up who lived in Mount Rainier before the 1990s who were likely excluded from joining?

Why not work with the City of Mount Rainier to turn your pool into a true community pool like Greenbelt does?

Why not offer more community days for those living in Mount Rainier?

Why don’t you ask for a fair assessment of your land to ensure that PG County and Mount Rainier get the taxes it deserves? This was surely a legacy of racism.

Why not let all children from Mount Rainier join your children’s swim team?

None of the pool members want to address these types of questions. They just respond by saying that it’s racist past was a “long time ago”, mock PG County and those who live there, say that any critique they don’t like is motivated by one’s place on the waitlist, or say there’s nothing they can do about it. Shame on them.
