PG Pool

When shown that they are a bunch of tax cheats, the best response that PG Pool members seem to have is “your county sucks.”

Not sure that’s going to work for the tax man (or women).

Huh? Every PG pool thread is started by sour grapes folks who can’t get off the waitlist. I wish you luck in getting more tax money from the pool. The extremely woke unpaid leadership obviously is in compliance with the county and will pay higher taxes if they can afford to keep the pool open. But if your goal is to get more affordable swimming options for neighbors, I don’t think it’s going to help. It will only drive up fees and hasten the gentrification of the pool. But by all means, go for it.

I'm not on the waitlist actually. I just want PG Pool to pay what is fair - based on a fair assessment - nothing more, nothing less.

PG pool is a non profit which affects its property tax status. MD would need to revoke its not for profit status.

That poster is not a member of PG Pool. They said so. You making incorrect assumptions.

Incorrect, but nice try.

No. That is correct.

What is incorrect? PG Pool is a non-profit. Non-profits pay less taxes. Non-profit status is given in perpetuity unless revoked by the state. All true.

This will drive up the price of membership, making it less accessible to poor families, more wealthy and more white. Which is exactly what the neighbors in Mt Rainier want.

Great idea! </s>

No, raising assessments will allow Mount Rainier and PG County to collect it's fair share of taxes so they can provide for the less fortunate in our community. Your response sounds like self-serving, woke-washing. Not everyone wants to join PG Pool, but most everyone in MtR wants paved streets, parks, and improved schools. How hard is it to pay your fair share? Sheesh!

Why doesn’t PG county have sufficient pools for its own residents? I live in Langdon and our DC public pool is full of MD kids. I doubt getting more money out of PG pool is going to solve PG’s problems with schools and roads.

Maybe if private pools like PG Pool paid its fair share of taxes, the county would have $ to build more pools.

Lets make sure the churches, etc, private schools, Boy Clubs, YMCAs, etc, pay their fair property taxes as well.

Ok fine- but you can’t have it both ways. If they have to increase fees to pay more taxes, the pool will only be more out of reach for some residents. Maybe that’s what you want so you have another thing to complain about?

Also, I’m not sure what you’re trying to accomplish by constantly spamming DCUM. Seems you should be writing elected officials or speaking up at a public meeting if you feel so strongly - do you not want to use your name and put your face out there?

Don't live in the area, so don't really care about this pool, but how would non-profit status affect assessments of land value?

Look at other pools in the county, on SDAT, and do the same calculations. There will be your answer.

Along those lines, I drove by Adelphi pool this week and it appears to have a sign out for memberships. The website explains a major renovation underway and re-opening next summer (I am not a member there, full disclosure).

Can you tell me what address you used to search for Adelphi Pool on SDAT? I searched for 9442 Riggs Rd and nothing came up.
