I asked out a 19/20 year old girl today who I thought was a grown adult woman

Nobody thinks 30 & 40 is too big of an age gap. Nobody.

Really? When I was 30, no way I was dating a 40-year-old.

Yes, you were immature.

I've tried to strike up something with a woman only a few times, and only with women I'd seen routinely and had some casual interaction with already because I don't want to be that guy who's on the prowl. Anyway, I do think it's legit to not always be able to tell the woman's age.

Not according to the posters here. A man shoud always know and he's a creep if he makes a mistake. There's no room for error.

JFC. Or, you know, he could have enough conversation with the woman to a) sense whether she is interested and b) know roughly how old she is. Conversational tip: if a woman is receptive to being asked out, she will *want to talk to you.* You won't have trouble having conversation, and in this conversation, she will drop details about her life, from which you can ascertain her age. (Also women can be both undergrads, grad students, AND moms at the same time, but that's another issue.)

Just so you know, a person cannot be an undergraduate and a graduate student at the same time. Now, yes, someone could be a student and a mom at the same time, but that's definitely not the norm. Moreover, the meaning was clear that "mom" referred to someone older and closer to the man's age, but you would rather continue the ascendant practices of being obtuse in the name of inclusivity and using edge cases to condemn common sense.

Common sense that women fall into two categories for OP: “young” and “mom.” Lol.

Common sense that generally students aren't parents. Why is this so hard to get?

The point is that PP had no other categories for women other than “student” or “mom.”

Yeah. I dated a 40 year old when I was 30, and it was not common. It’s a big age gap.

No the word for someone who doesn’t date a divorced man 12+ years older who likes to stare at teenagers and “startle” them when they’re exercising alone is actually “intelligent”

Well, he is a 40 yr old divorced man. Even if the woman looked like a 25 yr old, he is super creepy for hitting on her while she is walking, and hitting on her because of the age difference.

He claims he could not see her face. That is worse. He is hitting on her based on her body? The body of a young woman wearing exercise clothes? He is just so gross!

That’s called attraction. Call the police.

The police wouldl have a good laugh. What would he be charged with? Talking?

It's not harrassment unless a person refuses to stop/leave when asked to do so.

Not in law enforcement are you?

The 42 y/o dude “startling” teenagers walking alone doesn’t get charged. For that. But he’s on the radar of local police— you realize they have teenage daughters too, right? Creepers like this are absolutely on the radar of local law enforcement.

I remember being a babysitter at 16-17 when a dad came over to pick up his daughter. He was probably late 30s-early 40s. He commented on my nice soccer legs and proceeded to touch them. I froze. You are in the same creep category, OP.

Not at all. You were both fully grown adults.

Don’t worry, a 40 year old man doesn’t want to date a washed-up 30 year old cat lady, or any woman over age 24 for that matter.

An 80yo and a 20yo are both grown adults. Does that mean it's not a big age gap?

Umm what? Law enforcement has better things to do than monitor a 40yo talking to a 20yo. Hate to break it to you but most 40yo do find 20yos attractive. They are adult women. Of course OP thought she had a great body, lol.

They are so busy they barely have time for real crimes.

10 year age gap & both individuals being 30 or older is different from a 60 year age gap with a 20 y/o, genius

Yes, he wants to date college students, apparently
