His policies on the frail elderly people in nursing homes and assisted living is criminal.
During Covid, he changed policy so that an elderly, bed-bound person in a nursing home only needs to have a grand total of 2 hours of care per day. AND changed the rules so that the people actually doing the care have ZERO medical background and only need to do a few hours of training, which can be done online. These people can administer medications to the elderly! Two hours includes total time to feed, bathe, clothe, administer medications, transfer from bed to wheelchair, assist with toileting, etc. Prop up an elderly person, stick their tray in front of them, come back 30 minutes later and these untrained, minimum background, minimum wage check people can and will fudge the numbers and say they spent 30 minutes assisting them eating. Do this times three and you are already almost at 2 hours. This is why the elderly are sitting around in the same clothes for days on end, are not getting their medications on time (or at all), are lying in urine, getting deep bed sores, or are dying. The big corporations that own these places are laughing all the way to the bank with U.S. taxpayers money in the form of Medicare/Medicaid which they are raking in. PLUS the money that people are paying on their own from their savings. DeSantis has fully led/facilitated this current state of affairs. His so called inspection agency, Agency for Health Care Administration is nothing but a joke. They will approve any facility as long as the people aren't literally being chewed on by rats: Leaking roof, broken windows, mold growing on the walls, bathrooms that don't work? No problem. Substandard food, verbal abuse from staff, no activities? No problem. Failure to keep generators in operational use? No problem. Failure to do background checks on workers? No problem. Failure to check recent licensing of nurses? No problem. Failure to treat residents with dignity and respect? No problem. Many long-term care facilities are over-medicating the elderly to keep them quiet and keep their workload down. And yes, that includes the very high-priced ones. |
You need to provide a link to your very biased take on the changes. Here is one that explains the changes. Who is against it? The unions, of course.

^ Let me guess based on YOUR biased response after a mere 10 minutes. You are a lobbyist. And this is why these measures are supported.
Have you personally spent time on the front-lines of elder care? I doubt it. |
| People have moved to Florida by the thousands every day and have for years. I moved to Florida in 2020. Nobody I have ever met in Florida (or anywhere else for that matter) moved here because of the governor. This governor is an idiot, if he becomes president the entire country will get to know the idiot, and Florida will have a new governor who also will not cause people to move here or move away from here. |
| I disagree that DeSantis is an idiot. He's well-educated, and he's very right-wing, but he is smart. Everything he does is calculated politically. Watch out for him. He is dangerous. |
I think you’re in a bit of a bubble. I know several people who moved to Florida during Covid because they liked what DeSantis was doing and perceived it as a place where they could have more freedom. They love him. Some of them even think Trump was too cautious with Covid and should never have had anything shut down at all when it first hit. These people are very anti-vaccine and anti-mask, and thought their blue states would never get rid of Covid restrictions and vaccine requirements. Now they claim they are in some kind of conservative utopia and the rest of us are suckers for living elsewhere. |
| Related to "liking what DeSantis did about covid" which were all the wrong things - new study out finds that unvaccinated people are 72% more likely to get in a car crash than vaccinated. https://www.amjmed.com/article/S0002-9343(22)00822-1/fulltext#seccesectitle0023 |

Also, he's bringing back polio. Enjoy, Floridians.

I don't think your link is doing what you think it does. |
My ILs were in FL when the vaccines became available, but in a blue area. Took forever to get them vaccine appointments as DeSantis' health department was rolling them out in areas where his donors lived. Some folks even came south to these areas for the vaccines. And sad for one of the PP's with limited understanding of demographics, public health, and systemic racism doesn't realize that actual risk is often closely correlated with skin color. |
A lot of people moved there because of the governor, at least on a temporary basis. For example, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes. |
