Life with DeSantis

So the Republican Governors Association is the middleman in the quid pro quo.

…Donating directly to DeSantis could violate the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) longstanding pay-to-play rule, which was designed to restrict campaign contributions from financial executives to state officials who control pension investment decisions.

Republican private equity donors have so far been able to get around the rule by donating to the Republican Governors Association (RGA), a group serving all GOP governors, which then siphoned some of the cash into a political committee that boosted DeSantis’ election bids. In doing so, they have relied on SEC regulators refusing to enforce the rule’s anti-circumvention provision prohibiting “acts done indirectly, which, if done directly, would violate the rule.”

On Tuesday, The Lever reported that $1 billion in Florida pension money had been directed to firms whose executives donated to the RGA, which spent more than $21 million supporting DeSantis’ reelection campaign in 2022.

I think you’re in a bit of a bubble. I know several people who moved to Florida during Covid because they liked what DeSantis was doing and perceived it as a place where they could have more freedom. They love him. Some of them even think Trump was too cautious with Covid and should never have had anything shut down at all when it first hit. These people are very anti-vaccine and anti-mask, and thought their blue states would never get rid of Covid restrictions and vaccine requirements. Now they claim they are in some kind of conservative utopia and the rest of us are suckers for living elsewhere.

Actually, no one I know in FL cares about either of you. Life is good down there...and rational policy making by DeSantis is one of the reasons why.

This is hysterical. Are these people truly this clueless and tone deaf?

The NAACP issues a "travel warning" despite the fact that Leon W. Russell, who is the chairman of the NAACP Board of Directors, lives in the Tampa Bay area. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

And, then, on MSNBC, in response to the NAACP "travel warning," this activist applauds it after saying SHE JUST TOOK HER FAMILY TO VACATION IN FLORIDA. You just can't make this up.

I’m not pro DeSantis or GOP but to be fair, stats from Covid deaths in FL need to be balanced with age of Floridians. I mean there’s a disproportionate number of older folks there so yeah, Covid mortality would be higher no matter what. You have to look at it more closely and I’m not saying he didn’t do people in but you gotta be legit.

So you'd think that would make him push harder for masks and vaccines. If he cared about protecting his people.

I do not have the data and do not know if the tweet above is accurate. But they say “age adjusted” which should be an apples to apples comparison.

The 16,000 additional deaths statistics are adjusted for age.
