Fetterman - Oz Debate — anyone keeping tabs on this?

Anonymous
NP. I honestly don’t get what all the fuss is. I watched it and was expecting someone drooling and barely understandable. Instead I saw someone who stumbles over words. I’d still rather have that than the slimy grifter Oz.

None of my friends in PA (a lot of them, I have a lot of connections there) are voting for Oz and their minds didn’t change post debate. They don’t want a carpetbagger.

LOL.
Steve Schmidt, founder of the Lincoln Project. But, you might not have known that since he has wiped any evidence of such from his Twitter profile.
No, he is not an "actual Republican." He is a registered Democrat.

You're completely correct, of course. PP should've stated that it was a tweet from someone lacking critical thinking skills.

Fixed your spelling error.

Oh ho ho! So very witty!

This is why people say Republicans can't do comedy. Because this passes as clever in your circles.

I wasn't being clever or witty. I was being accurate.

As long as he can vote yes to keep politicians hands off women's bodies. I really don't care if he can speak or not

Once again, this is a case of Democrats looking for any reason not to 100% support their candidate and instead throw their boat away for some third party. Nobody. And once again handing the state of her to Republicans. This election is far greater implications than just one state, but of course Democrats can't see that because fetterman doesn't give them 100% of everything you're looking for. Must throw him out completely. Meanwhile, Republicans would vote for a literal pile of crap. And win.

Yes he stumbled a little more than the average politician during a debate but all things considered having had a stroke not long ago he did really well

Nonetheless no I wouldn’t vote for him at this time. Having a stroke has physical and cognitive side effects. It is possible that with the passage of time both improve but it’s not a given. There is also quite a bit of follow up medical appts and monitoring. And once a person has a stroke they are far more likely to suffer another. He needs to put time and effort into healing and that is where his energy will eventually be needed. He can continue to push himself but he will likely burn out it worse suffer another stroke. I know someone who struggled with aphasia after a stroke. It took a few months to get back to a level where he didn’t have to struggle for the most common words and about a year out, he only struggled if he became very tired. It didn’t go away completely it just improved.

Members of Congress get cancer and go out for months for treatment & recovery….including multiple bouts of cancer. Steve Scalise was shot and out of commission for months. Tons of members of congress have serious medical conditions that require ongoing care, including Senator McConnell.

Fetterman will be fine and improve with time. He will have doctors in both DC and PA helping with ongoing speech therapy.

This is truly a nothingburger. The guy isn’t a vegetable, he can think and write. Debate and speech is mostly dead in the Senate.

There is no way to know today if that is true. Even his doctors aren't going to tell him that for sure. It's not a definite. He might not improve and all the speech therapy in the world won't make a difference.

It's definitely not a nothingburger. It is a real issue.

It's not a "speech therapy" issue. It is severe cognitive impairment, as a result of the stroke. All I can say is that Mrs. Fetterman is another Mrs. Biden - power hungry women who will literally throw their husbands to the wolves, just for a chance to be in power.

Aphasia is not a "severe cognitive impairment," you shameless liar.

And that is so offensive. I had a stroke when I was 35 (35!). My speech was, yeah, it was bad for awhile, but my cognitive functioning remained the same. This whole thread is kind of disgusting and full of misinformation. Makes me sad.

Then, you - of all people - should know that strokes affect different people differently.
We have no idea if his cognitive functioning remains unaffected. He has not released his medical records and the only information he has released is from a single doctor who claims he is able to serve. Perhaps physically this is true, but voters want to know if he will be able to engage in rigorous debate, make decisions on votes independently, and work with other Senators to get work done. Or, as another poster stated, will he simply be able to "press the button he's told to press." That is NOT what being a Senator means.

Democratic voters in PA should be pissed. The Fetterman campaign withheld the seriousness of his condition DURING THE PRIMARY. They knew voters would not want to send a candidate whose cognitive condition is unknown to the Senate. So, they kept his condition secret and didn't disclose the seriousness of his health until they were essentially forced to.
If this is what we can expect from a "Senator Fetterman," then voters in PA should reject him.

DP. Are you asking for his MRI image? What exactly do you think his "medical records" will tell us?

DP. As a matter of fact, yes. After last night's debacle, I think the Democrats of PA need to demand more information. The party has clearly been hiding Fetterman and now they know why. I think it should be made transparent once and for all what serious and probably permanent effects he suffered from the May 13 stroke, as well as what other health issues (afib/ obesity) he may be dealing with. He is a public figure who is seeking to represent 13 million people in the US Senate.

Two editorial boards, of The Washington Post and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, have called for Fetterman to release medical records after his refusal to debate Oz more than once. The Post-Gazette said that should include cognitive tests and making his doctors available to reporters.

You mean like Hillary Clinton in NY? I am guessing your friends are the main line group who are part of the political elite. Those people will never got beyond party. The people that I notice of my friends voting for OZ are blue collar for the most part and usually vote blue but have an independent streak. They have grown to appreciate OZ. He won’t close schools, he will be tough on crime and he earned every penny he has. More and more people realize Fetterman is a spoiled rich kid. It is interesting how the wealthy are very whatever about food and gas costs. The Democratic party has become so elite that they forget what it is like to really have to live on budget.

No one has been “hiding Fetterman.” He’s been doing interviews and campaign events.

More village idiot vibes than US Senator. But yeah, ignore the obvious and vote blue regardless of candidate quality. Party over country and all that.

Blue, no matter who.... right?
Maybe the voters in PA actually care about who they elect. Maybe they are looking to elect someone who has demonstrated he can think for himself and not just press the "right" button. Maybe they want to elect a candidate who will listen to them and represent their needs.
Fetterman has not demonstrated that he is that candidate.

I'm not in PA, but this applies to me as a voter in the midterm and will apply in the general. I did not respect Trump voters who could look past his personal life and his character to vote for him just because he was on the republican ticket, but I am now at that level and will vote for anyone who is a democrat. I hope that changes in the future, and I can again vote in line with my values, but for now I will not vote for any republican.

I realize this is a bit different from physical fitness to serve, but it's a similar point.

No, not really. Certainly no national interviews. And all of the "events" listed on his web site are virtual. Why is that?
