Yes he stumbled a little more than the average politician during a debate but all things considered having had a stroke not long ago he did really well

Nonetheless no I wouldn’t vote for him at this time. Having a stroke has physical and cognitive side effects. It is possible that with the passage of time both improve but it’s not a given. There is also quite a bit of follow up medical appts and monitoring. And once a person has a stroke they are far more likely to suffer another. He needs to put time and effort into healing and that is where his energy will eventually be needed. He can continue to push himself but he will likely burn out it worse suffer another stroke. I know someone who struggled with aphasia after a stroke. It took a few months to get back to a level where he didn’t have to struggle for the most common words and about a year out, he only struggled if he became very tired. It didn’t go away completely it just improved.

Members of Congress get cancer and go out for months for treatment & recovery….including multiple bouts of cancer. Steve Scalise was shot and out of commission for months. Tons of members of congress have serious medical conditions that require ongoing care, including Senator McConnell.

Fetterman will be fine and improve with time. He will have doctors in both DC and PA helping with ongoing speech therapy.

This is truly a nothingburger. The guy isn’t a vegetable, he can think and write. Debate and speech is mostly dead in the Senate.

There is no way to know today if that is true. Even his doctors aren't going to tell him that for sure. It's not a definite. He might not improve and all the speech therapy in the world won't make a difference.

It's definitely not a nothingburger. It is a real issue.

It's not a "speech therapy" issue. It is severe cognitive impairment, as a result of the stroke. All I can say is that Mrs. Fetterman is another Mrs. Biden - power hungry women who will literally throw their husbands to the wolves, just for a chance to be in power.

Aphasia is not a "severe cognitive impairment," you shameless liar.

And that is so offensive. I had a stroke when I was 35 (35!). My speech was, yeah, it was bad for awhile, but my cognitive functioning remained the same. This whole thread is kind of disgusting and full of misinformation. Makes me sad.

Then, you - of all people - should know that strokes affect different people differently.
We have no idea if his cognitive functioning remains unaffected. He has not released his medical records and the only information he has released is from a single doctor who claims he is able to serve. Perhaps physically this is true, but voters want to know if he will be able to engage in rigorous debate, make decisions on votes independently, and work with other Senators to get work done. Or, as another poster stated, will he simply be able to "press the button he's told to press." That is NOT what being a Senator means.

Democratic voters in PA should be pissed. The Fetterman campaign withheld the seriousness of his condition DURING THE PRIMARY. They knew voters would not want to send a candidate whose cognitive condition is unknown to the Senate. So, they kept his condition secret and didn't disclose the seriousness of his health until they were essentially forced to.
If this is what we can expect from a "Senator Fetterman," then voters in PA should reject him.

This. Who is pulling the strings behind this weak, feckless candidate? Besides his wife, whom I agree with PP is another Dr. Jill Biden. And that's not a compliment.

Won’t support him - not acceptable.

He doesn’t support it. He was just lying in the moment because that’s what people needed to hear.

JFC, read between the lines. He’s a reliable democrat.

This guy had a stroke and he seems to be 100% more sane than either of them, who couldn’t have a straight thought not because they were recovering from a TBI but because they were incapable of having any principles.

I hope you're not holding up Trump and Palin as the bar for Democrats to meet or exceed?

He’s the Lt Governor of the state of PA and was a successful mayor who helped revitalize an otherwise dying town.

He’s qualified to be a US Senator. He’s way more qualified than others who became Governor (Schwarzenegger), Senator (Franken), or President (Trump) with zero experience in public service.

Today only around 1,700 people remain, of which about 72 percent are Black. About one-third live below the federal poverty threshold.

“He first come in thinking that he was in charge of everything,” Brown said. “After a couple run-ins him and I had, he stopped coming to meetings. He should have been in all council meetings to break a tie in case there was a tie or if he had some input he could put input in, but he didn’t do that.”

(Brown is a former council president.)

Walking down the main avenue in Braddock, most buildings are in disrepair, marred by peeling paint, rotted wood and broken glass. Ferty’s Bar, which has closed, has a faded newspaper article in the window: “Braddock upgrades its look.” The faux brick facade is peeling off. The roof has collapsed, and the interior is a mess of splintered wood and debris.

Not everything spearheaded by Fetterman succeeded. He lured a celebrity chef to open a restaurant in a building he owned in 2017. Superior Motors won raves in Food & Wine and the New York Times. The menu included beef tartare and sashimi appetizers, while entrees ran in price from $22 to $29.
Kander, who helped raised money for the restaurant, said it offered 50 percent discount to residents and was intended to lure outsiders to Braddock and employ locals. Braddock Redux received grants for a communal oven and culinary classes. But Kander said the restaurant could not survive the pandemic and the departure of the chef four years later.
The restaurant also lacked a hometown customer base. John Paylor, who was riding down the street on a recent day in a motorized wheelchair, said the restaurant was too expensive for most Braddock residents, even with the discount.

You’re the mayor of a depressed town … I’m not paying no $50″ for dinner, he said. “That’s a week, four days of groceries. That’s how it was. It was like, if you ain’t on his side or go along with him then he have nothing to do with you.”
The restaurant’s closing in 2021 rankled many residents, who said it proved Fetterman was out of touch. Some critics even said he was using the community to advance his political career.

So the locals were angry that they could get a gourmet meal for $12 (A McDonalds meal is easily $10 now) so they refused to go to the restaurant causing it to close and blamed Fetterman. Got it. How do areas living below the poverty line anticipate they will ever get out of poverty if they can't entice businesses and visitors from outside their area to come in and spend money there? They are obviously too poor to get themselves out of poverty and expect a politician to wave a magic stick.

You really don't get it.
What this excerpt is highlighting is that this town that he claims to have "revitalized" isn't revitalized at all. The attempts he made were totally out of touch with the residents' needs.
Add to that, the police officers in Braddock have endorsed Oz.

“Many times, I was called to assist in Braddock when Mr. Fetterman was mayor. I know he says that he’s a law-and-order candidate. I have to disagree with that,” said Vincent Dicenzio, Jr., president of the Allegheny County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 91, which includes the Braddock police officers.

Fetterman “was always good to show up for a photo opportunity. But as crime was going on in Braddock, you did not see Mr. Fetterman. Instead, you saw other police departments there assisting Braddock Police Department. I had the opportunity to sit down with Mr. Fetterman when he ran for lieutenant governor, and as the mayor of Braddock, he had no idea what their officers made. They didn’t even have a contract or benefits. They were one of the lowest paid police departments in Allegheny County.”

He understands what the mouthbreathers need to hear with regards to fracking and he told them what they wanted to hear. It was a clever way to answer the question.

So would simple pay raise get the entire community out of poverty? Can't the county just decide to give their police a pay raise without a political official?

A "clever" way to answer the question would have been to explain why he has made a total 180 in his view of fracking. Maybe explaining that he understands that the US needs fossil fuels and to attempt to stop the production of gas and heating oil would result in needless death and a serious decline in the quality of life.

But, instead we got stammering and an unexplained flip flop.

It was not clever. It was desperate.

No wonder the Republicans in this thread have their undies in such a bunch. They don't know the first thing about courage, honesty, or humility.

LOL.
Steve Schmidt, founder of the Lincoln Project. But, you might not have known that since he has wiped any evidence of such from his Twitter profile.
No, he is not an "actual Republican." He is a registered Democrat.

You're completely correct, of course. PP should've stated that it was a tweet from someone with critical thinking skills.

Oh ho ho! So very witty!

This is why people say Republicans can't do comedy. Because this passes as clever in your circles.
