MCPS is scratching the bottom of the barrel to fill vacancies. Good candidates are going elsewhere. That goes for the administrative ranks as well as teachers. It’s another indication of the decay in MCPS.

Yep. MCPS is going to hell in a handbasket. Again.

Principals retiring and leaving due to the stresses of COVID don’t really show a decline.

The Central Office promotions of people who were grossly inept at their last positions shows how desperate MCPS is at filling even the top administrative positions. Doesn’t bode well for the outlook of the school system.

Anonymous wrote:Anyone have any ideas about who will get Wootton?

Either Sam Levine (was an AP at B-CC and a Principal Intern at Kennedy this past year) or Vilma Najera (longtime AP at Springbrook who then became a Principal Intern as well at Quince Orchard HS this past year). Perhaps Joey Jones because Frost students matriculate to Wootton - this is the most likely as he's fantastic and has been tagged for higher things in the district for a long time. Has to be one of these three.

Don't you think Wootton's own principal intern this past year, Rohner, would be on the list? Springbrook has a principal opening as well, so Najera may be up for that.

Good question. Springbrook's principal is on leave, he's returning. Rohner has most of his experience in middle schools and would be a good choice, but in these situations they try to either get the principal from the middle school in the community (Renay Johnson from TPMS -> Blair, Mildred Charley-Greene from TPMS -> Northwood, Alicia Deeny from TPMS -> RM, John Taylor from CJMS -> Churchill) or a principal who's worked with similar communities in the past (Levine). That's why Dr. Jones is very much the clear front-runner. He has worked with high schools in the past but just moved down to the MS level. He's had his fair share of entreaties for HS and is just waiting for the right move. If they want Rohner in there, it has to be as an interim because I feel as though he needs more seasoning.

Then why was the Springbrook principal position listed on MCPS Careers earlier this month?

"Dear Springbrook Community,

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that I will be taking extended leave effective April 20, 2022 through June 30, 2022 for a health-related matter."

Yes, but that letter is from April. Then, in June, they listed the position as open.

Dr. Williams is now in a new role in Central Office
. Springbrook's new principal appointed on June 28th, could be Valentine (current acting) or Najera

Why isn't he in the staff directory any more?

+1. And if he isn't in the staff directory, how do we know he's in central office? What sources know this?

Leadership in MCPS has watered down the curriculum for years. It started with 2.0 and had continued since the pandemic closures. The net result is a student population unready for college and the workforce. Currently, Dr. McKnight is focused on putting out fires such as administrative vacancies instead of getting students caught up for the regression during online learning. (I often wonder if children of administrators who kept MCPS out of school for over a year had their children attending in person in their private schools.)

Large corporations such as Amazon and Boeing are choosing northern Virginia for east coast headquarters over Montgomery County. Public education standards was a factor.

It was sent in a letter to staff prior to the Director informing them of the new Principal search. It is also on his LinkedIn profile 3 weeks ago "I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Newcomer School Support Liasion at Montgomery County Public Schools!"

It's a shame that principals who are completely toxic are allowed to continue making life hell for people who work in their schools. Oh wait, that was happening well before COVID.

MCPS is better than NoVa's school systems.

Took the words out of my mouth. And Northern VA is even more expensive to live in.

Large employers look at the quality of the education in the place they are relocating. Employees look at their commute time when choosing where to live.

The socioeconomic status of MCPS families is declining. A factor is highly educated parents are going elsewhere to work and live in addition to investing in private schools for their children.

Fair point. Returning to the main topic, the final BOE meeting of the fiscal and school year is tomorrow so the principal mysteries will be solved then.
