Central office - no doubt for less work and more pay.

She was at Rustin for 3 1/2 years. She's now the director of the department of materials management, which actually seems like a big job:

Part of the reason we had no covid supplies was because Dr. McKnight appointed an elementary school principal with no materials acquisition experience to a materials management position. I don't know the woman who took on that role personally so this isn't a complaint about her, but rather about the appointment process. Also, while central is often comparable or more pay for less work, it's also a way to get rid of underperforming principals and principals who create issues (they have an affair with a subordinate staff member, they have some kind of breakdown, they're in legal limbo for something that causes them to lose the public's trust or to attract negative attention to MCPS, the person has had a million complaints made to directors from parents and are considered a PIA). Usually, you can find those people in less high-profile positions in central, hiding in plain sight. They might be appointed to a consulting principal position or put in the equity unit or whatever.

Maybe. I don't know much about the police.

So you're saying the CO jobs are kind of like SRO positions for the police?

A lot announced this afternoon. Several of these are promotions from acting principal to the permanent job:

I’m shocked that the Acting Principal of Sligo wasn’t selected. He seemed to be doing a good job.

+1. I’m very disappointed to lose the current Acting Principal.

Perhaps the acting principal was not interested in that job permanently. For an acting principal in MCPS, the permanent job is basically yours to lose.

Maybe he will go back to his previous AP role at Sligo.

Highland View ES currently has a principal intern

I knew Ms. Strain when she was at Flora Singer! She seemed very nice; I hope that's a good fit for Glen Haven.

I follow Sligo Middle a little bit because that's our in-bounds middle school (though my child is still too young to go there) -- it sure seems like it has had a lot of leadership turnover in recent years.

Does acting principal/principal intern more likely promoted to be principals at their current school or to other school?

For a principal intern, it really depends on whether the principal is staying on or leaving. Lots of principal interns are promoted to principal positions at other schools. For acting principals, there is a vacancy that needs to be filled, so barring any problems under their watch, they are very likely to get the permanent job if they are interested in it.

I’ve been underwhelmed with the acting principal at TPMS so not particularly excited she has been appointed, though in fairness, Ms Deeny is a very hard act to follow.

No his letter said he would be leaving Sligo. I’m sorry he wasn’t placed in the job permanently, if that’s what he wanted.

How is it that some schools have changes in principal constantly whereas some have the same principal in the last 20 years?

At Sligo he was definitely interested. He was very good from a parent/student perspective.

There are other middle school principal positions that will be opening but haven't been announced yet. Perhaps he'll get one of those.
