You have to wonder if the military is making a half-hearted attempt at the blockade. Maybe it's not just a coverage issue, and they just don't want to over-index on piracy.

Iran has now upped the ante and is attacking ships in the strait of Hormuz. Very problematic, because they are not military but civilian sailors. Iran says they will not agree to a ceasefire until USA removes the blockade.

1. The head of the UN maritime agency has appealed for help for thousands of seafarers stranded in the Gulf by the effective closure of the strait of Hormuz.

About 20,000 seafarers and 2,000 ships have been stranded since US-Israeli strikes on Iran on 28 February, according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The agency said at least 10 seafarers have been killed and several more severely injured in attacks on commercial vessels since the start of the war.

IMO’s secretary general, Arsenio Dominguez, said the agency is working on an evacuation plan for the stranded ships but that it can only be put into action when there are clear signs of de-escalation.

2. Here is a summary of the attacks reported in the strait of Hormuz and the statement by the IRGC of the seizure of two of the ships.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it received a report of a container ship coming under fire off the coast of Oman by a gun boat linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Greece’s Kathimerini newspaper reported that the ship was identified as the Liberia-flagged Epaminondas, owned by Greece’s Technomar Shipping and operated by MSC.
The UKMTO said it received a second report of a ship coming under attack in the strait of Hormuz, near the coast of Iran. It did not say who launched the attack against the cargo ship, which had stopped in the water. Iranian reports suggest the vessel was called Euphoria.
The maritime intelligence company Vanguard told the BBC that a third ship was attacked in the strait of Hormuz, identifying it as the Panama-flagged MSC Francesca.

These are innocent seafarers. While it is Iran attacking, USA now has a responsibility to address this in order to protect these people.

Thanks for posting this, PP. This is one of many things that makes me furious about this stupid war. This administration doesn’t seem to care one bit about the thousands of seafarers stranded on these ships—or the fact that they have and will continue to come under attack. This topic is barely covered in US news. I only know a bit about it because I read the Greek press where it is a bigger topic since the country has an oversized presence in shipping.

Yep, Israel is already starting the manufacturing consent process. They are claiming Turkey could potentially be a nuclear threat.

How is Iran's navy navying when Trump said it was destroyed weeks ago like the uranium was 9 months ago?

And also, I think Iran is able to do whatever they want within the Persian Gulf in order to maintain national security since the US has been maintaining national security by killing fishermen and hijacking ships a thousand miles from the US.

Iran captures two vessels in Strait of Hormuz after ship comes under fire

Iran has captured two foreign commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and moved them to its coast, in a further escalation that comes hours after United States President Donald Trump said he would extend a ceasefire with Tehran.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the vessels had violated maritime regulations and entered the strategic waterway without coordination, according to Iranian state media.

The capture follows Wednesday’s incident, in which an Iranian gunboat fired on a container vessel near Oman, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre.

The British maritime monitoring agency said the ship’s captain reported that the ship had been approached by an IRGC vessel before shots were fired.

“[It] has caused heavy damage to the bridge. No fires or environmental impact reported,” UKMTO added. No casualties were reported, and all crew members were said to be safe.

Al Jazeera’s Tohid Asadi, reporting from Tehran, said, “This is in line with what we heard from the IRGC previously, saying that any passage of ships, vessels or oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz should be with the permission and coordination of the IRGC.”

He said the capture reflected Iran’s continuing strategy to impose control and authority over maritime traffic through the chokepoint, adding that Iranian officials were now discussing charges and transit fees for vessels using the route.

British maritime security firm Vanguard Tech said the container vessel that came under fire was sailing under a Liberian flag and had been informed it had permission to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian news agency Tasnim, however, said the vessel had ignored warnings issued by Iran’s forces.

The only thing Iran has to say is the passage is not safe for any vessel to pass.
The insurance companies will pull the insurance and the vessel will be out of service.

It is saying just that by capturing and firing on vessels. Actions speak louder than words.

Did you forget what the US has done? The US navy blow up at least 54 civilian boats in the Caribbean and Pacific. They fired on an unarmed cargo ship in the Persian Gulf disabling it. No word on what happened to the crew of that ship. These are all acts of war and war crimes against civilians sailors.

The US is the bad actor and everyone of the seafarers trap in the Persian Gulf fear for their lives when they see a US navy vessel. It is time you admit the US is lawless and a rogue nation.

Okay. I guess we can just ignore what the Iranian say and believe Trump? The Iranians are very united and are speaking with one voice. Why would anyone believe this narrative?

The insurance is a difficult topic. You have to get separate wartime insurance, which / guess what- doesn’t cover acts of war..,
So there is that.

I believe what is reported in the news of Europe, Asia, etc. they are objective and not controlled like most USA news.
I think this is fake news. They are just reporting what trump SAYS, not what is actually happening.

It’s not false. It’s confirmed that 26 ships snuck past the USA blockade.

https://www.lloydslist.com/LL1156966/At-least-26-Iranian-shadow-fleet-vessels-bypass-US-blockade

And frankly, for those of us who protest the war, it’s interesting to see Trump getting his comeuppance

DP. This is indeed fake news. Stop spreading disinfo.

The U.S. Navy has turned back 27 ships trying to enter or exit Iranian ports since an American blockade outside the contested Strait of Hormuz began about a week ago

lol do you have independent verification of this or is this just Hegseth talking sh#t again. Blockade is a failure.

By "independent verification," do you mean from Iranian sources? Every major news source is reporting the above. So sorry!

Here’s the deal regarding the blockade- Iran won’t even agree to peace talks until it’s removed. So I’m wondering if Trump is slowly backing it off without telling us so he can save face?

That makes sense because a blockade is an act of war which shouldn’t be in place during a ceasefire which is an attempt at peace. You don’t have to go to the War College to know this.

That's exactly why JFK carefully chose the word "quarantine" to describe the blockade of Cuba in '62. Trump is too stupid to understand that words have actual meaning.
