The motion was called at 1:08.

The president pro tem is clearing the floor and returning the House to order. He's asked everyone to sit or take discussions out of the chamber. Soon a vote will be called on the CR. Debate is resuming. R's have 6 min remaining. D's have 5 min remaining. So, soon.

thank you please keep posting!!!

rose de lauro says “it’s not so clean a CR”

She pointed out that the Senate CR had language to suspend pay raises for Congress but the 71 page CR that the House Rs posted dropped a sentence to essentially allow them to give themselves a pay raise. The House R's objected, but President PT called them to order. Essentially De Lauro is trying to get this voted down so that the Ds can read the full 71 page CR (I think).

I wonder if they will really get 2/3 of the vote. Listening to Hakeem Jeffries.

This is longer than 5 min. I don’t understand house rules

I thought the Senate had a “president pro tem”.

Why should the Democrats rubber stamp what the MAGAs offer?

What is going on here - why aren't they just doing the short speeches where they step up and say whether one should vote for/against? Instead we've got Jeffries talking about driving down the price of insulin? I understand that's an accomplishment but what has that to do with a gov't shutdown or not?

According to the Post, he’s using the “magic minute,” which means members’ one-minute time limit to speak can be extended indefinitely for the leader.

Is he stalling to allow Democrats (or their staff) more time to read the bill?

So I haven’t followed the politics of this so could someone explain - I though the reason a clean CR wasn’t an option weeks ago is bc the MAGA caucus demanded that any CR/budget have huge spending cuts. Granted maybe a clean CR passes without them - w Dems + moderate GOP. But then I thought the MAGA caucus has said if McCarthy gets it done that way with Dems, they’ll come after his speakership. Is McCarthy now implying he’d give up speakership? Maybe he would but I’m kind of surprised he’d offer that up pre shutdown.

I think they're hoping if they can separate Ukraine aid from the CR, that's enough cover for the MAGA to call it a win.
There's been a poster in another forum claiming that pulling Ukraine funding has always been the main issue due to kompromat. I'm starting to believe it.

I'm starting to believe it as well. And I'm not one for conspiracy theories.

That’s my guess.
