+1 They can't even agree to release the Epstein files! I mean, how can there be a disagreement about naming and shaming pedophiles? |
Why do only Dems need to compromise? In order to pass a budget, the House needs to send the Senate something that can get 60 votes. Usually that's accomplished by bipartisan compromise within the House. Kevin McCarthy did this in 2023. Mike Johnson himself did this last year. Yet this time around Johnson is expecting the Senate to act as rubber stamp for the one bill he was willing to pass before taking his members and going home. The longer he keeps the House out of session the more blame Mike Johnson will get for the shutdown. |
Back here in reality, the majority of people blame Trump and republicans. |
You miss the point. They don't have to compromise. They need to find a fight they can win. They cannot win this stalemate because very simply - the other side doesn't need the shutdown to end!!! Don't you people get it? It doesn't matter how many people blame the GOP. Ultimately, as a Dem, I believe in a govt. it's really clear to me Trump and gang don't really see this as a positive. They want their kind of govt. So the Dens need to play strategically and let this one go. Let some stuff go bad so you can blame the Republicans! You have to fight to win the war. Not just the battle. |
Forget building an org or a team. FIX the agenda and the priorities of the DNC. The policies they push are no longer popular. The country has changed and is growing. They actually don't like the drawbacks of the democrat agenda. TANFL |
But what fight can they win? Thanks to recission, the GOP needs only 50 votes to claw back funding that was approved with 60 votes. Schumer and Jeffries see this as their last stand. |
|
Holding out is the only option for Democrats. Caving -- as they did before -- solved nothing. At least now their opposition to the current mode of 'governance' is clear and the issues stay front and center in the news.
I say this is a Fed who could really use the paycheck. |
Thank you for your sacrifice. I’m sorry it’s come to this. |
Ugh. They are fools then. Guarantee Dems will back down. There is no other way. Or else we just have a shutdown till the end of time! Don't any of these people play poker?! There is zero reason Rep need to cave on this since the military is being paid. The admin don't want the ATC folks who call in sick. Their whole plan is to spin everything into chaos. So they can remake the shape of govt. For the Dems to die on their swords for ACA is simply not big enough of a sacrifice for what's coming for everyone. This is just not the right way to stick to their guns. The only way they win is if the Rep shoot themselves in the foot which is entirely possible of course but I don't know... all this pain. |
You are wrong. Budget bills only require 50 votes, cannot be filibustered. |
NOt until the end of time. Once they get to the new year, or perhaps it is the regular budget bills, filibuster is not allowed. |
| Why doesn't a judge just order the government to reopen? Why hasn't anyone filed that lawsuit? |
I agree. There is absolutely no win for Dems if they come to the table. They are implementing the solution of last resort because they are in a situation of last resort! If they hold out long enough, the ruling party will understand that they have options to move forward all by their little own selves. |
| There must be some really bad stuff in the Epstein files that has to be redacted before they are released. Kinda doubt this is over before Thanksgiving. |
Except the Republicans want things shut down. They are the party of shrinking government. Maybe not the Senators who are about helping corporate donors, but overall. Democrats lose as things stay shut down. |
