Political Discussion
| FFS his veteran status is pretty irrelevant to the incident, whether it's as a Vietnam vet or a Vietnam era vet. The kid saw him as male, older, wearing traditional Native American clothing/hairstyle, having skin color that matches what most people think of as Native American, and chanting and drumming with a group of other Native American looking people. He had no way to know whether he was a vet or an era vet. With the info at his disposal, he decided to engage in a staring contest with the man. This would have been disrespectful, freaky, and rude even if the man was a 6 foot tall 70-yr-old white man wearing a Brooks Brothers suit. But we all know he'd never do that to that man. |
+1 The same people on dcum who have been screaming that those boys treated a Vietnam Vet so badly are now screaming it doesn’t matter if he didn’t serve in Vietnam because a vet is a vet. Also Phillips lies by omission. He knew damn well saying he was a Vietnam Vet meant he served in Vietnam. Countless news outlets and bloggers and twitter and Facebook posts held this man up to be a veteran that fought in The Vietnam war. He said nothing to correct that. |
I want you to take a closer look at this video of the entire incident. Get back to me and tell me who the real racists were. By the way, I am not a fan of Trump or his supporters. I despise him. However, the Covington students were the ones who were being harassed. The media wrongly crucified those students. This is the full video posted by Chief Ephraim one of the Black Hebrew Israelites https://youtu.be/1q1rqCi-oM8 This is the unedited truth! There is also video footage of the racist group targeting two black students from Convington and calling them the N-word. However, the media will not show that either. The media owes those students, their families, and Covington Catholic School an apology. I have watched all four parts of their videos. What I saw was a racist group (Black Hebrew Israelites) harassing Native Americans, women, and the students from Covington. They were trying to incite these students to violence and wanted a physical altercation with them. Upon seeing this a group of Native Americans began chanting and praying to diffuse the tension. Phillip took it a step further by getting directly into one of the student's face while he was beating his drum. He approached the students, but lied about them targeted him. The media is totally neglecting to show the truth. That is why I'm going to make a copy of all of their videos before YouTube shuts them down because the truth needs to get out. I am all for fighting injustices and standing up against racism and these students were not the racists in this incident. |
Um, no. It was noted he was a veteran. Maybe some outlets said vietnam vet or vietnam era vet. They all didn't. But, in any event, the kid could not have known that. And the point was that the kid probably assumed he was something he wasn't instead of taking the time to think about the man in another light. Stereotyping. That is the relevance. Nothing more. And that has not changed. |
Thank you, PP. Be prepared to be shouted down by those who will never, ever allow the true narrative of these events to surface. |
The Smirk of Privilege. Many of us know it. And know it well. |
And YOU keep ignoring their behavior. Which everything wrong with your side. See how that works? |
I watched all the videos too. I guess we will have to agree to disagree with what we saw. I saw crazy street preachers spouting nonsense at everyone in the vicinity. I saw kids who were misbehaving and acting like a mob. I saw someone try to diffuse the tension and succeeded until the kids turned on him. Now I see parents and a school who are not taking responsibility for raising kids who don't know how to behave in public, who don't know how to be respectful of other people, and who want to blame anyone else possible for their kid getting bad press. |
Plus a billion. And yet, we have the liberal media (and DCUM liberals) whitewashing (you should excuse the expression) the behavior of the blacks and the Native American and zeroing in like a laser on the white Christian males. What these liberals are saying is "OK, the black bigots weren't right, but let.s keep the condemnation on the white Catholic-school boys." This thread is a beaut for any moderates out there. |
Exactly. DCUM never fails to disappoint. When I saw a video of exactly what the BHI were yelling, I was appalled. And yet, no condemnation from the left. Only, "oh, they're always there, nbd." Well, it is a big deal and should be condemned in no uncertain terms. But sure, lets deflect to the group of white boys instead. Always fodder for liberal hate. |
+100 Moderate here and thoroughly disgusted with the usual liberal posturing. It's a shame this incident happened at all, but it's also pretty relevatory. |

Anyone else see Tucker last night discussing the hypocrisy of the left and this story? In summary, people like those in power and elites on the coast are attacking some middle class catholic kids in flyover country.

So, we now know he wasn't a Vietnam Veteran. Does it matter?
Well, given the fact that he has claimed he was, I believe so. This is a big thing to lie about. And, it makes one wonder about his credibility - specifically his version of events. Here is one time, actually two times, he lied... CNN interview just days ago........ CNN: Let me ask you about what happened to you. These boys in the middle of this group and you find yourself surrounded. How did that happen and what did that feel like as a person standing there face to face with a young man who seems to be staring at you or glaring at you? How would you describe that moment? Phillips: When I was there and I was standing there and I seen that group of people in front of me and I seen the angry faces and all of that, I realized I had put myself in a really dangerous situation. Here's a group of people who were angry at somebody else and I put myself in front of that, and all of a sudden, I'm the one whose all that anger and all that wanting to have the freedom to just rip me apart, that was scary. And I'm a Vietnam veteran and I know that mentality of "There's enough of us. We can do this." ----- CNN: What really happened? Phillips: They were there looking for trouble, looking for something. Everybody knows the right to life and (pro-choice), it's been like this and they're hateful to each other. And it's because I'm a veteran -- I'm a Vietnam veteran -- that these two groups even have the right in this country to have protests, to have conflicting opinions. If they were doing that, they should've done that there and then when they come into public, that wasn't the place for that. That was a public forum where we was at. We were still under the protection of our permit for the indigenous peoples rally. https://m.cnn.com/en/article/h_1dc42c3dec10ec0d383aa008f55e4bf1 |
What specifically was mob-like about the boys' behavior? I saw kids doing a school cheer -- called the Haka. They were standing where they were told to stand while waiting for their bus -- on a gathering spot on the steps -- and one boy led them in a cheer. The Haka is kind of a wild cheer but I've seen it done before and they were doing it the way people do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiKFYTFJ_kw Aside from that cheer that they were participating in, what exactly did you see was moblike behavior? And why do you say "the kids turned on him"?? When did they do that? Did they yell at him because I didn't hear any audio of them yelling at him. Just clapping, jumping around to the drumming. |

Also -- if you are trying to diffuse tension... why would you walk INTO a group and stare someone down?
In my world, if you are trying to calm things down, you maintain appropriate distance and personal space. And what is it about a drum beat that you think calms people down? Do you use drums to help children calm down at the end of a long day to go to sleep? Usually I think drums are used to get people energized. |
