And I was not the PP who said Blair had some of the lowest scores in the county. Looking at the chart, it scores 16 points above the county average. It should be noted that, as a magnet, Blair should have some of the highest scores in the county just like RM but it doesn't.

Huh? The mean scores for the Blair magnet itself are comparable to RMIB itself.

Blair: 1531
RM: 1500

I meant when averaged in with the rest of the schools.

DP
You're once again wrong.
Blair class of 2020-2021 average SAT is 1244
RM class of 2020-2021 average SAT is 1227

If I understand correctly, there are 100 kids in each graduating class at Blair scoring over 1500 and then the rest of the school averaging 1000.

They're wrong about a lot of things. The stat the other posted listed compared the largest demographic cohorts common to these schools as a way to offset demographic differences. It turned out that Blair was 50-60 points above the next highest school. Another poster claimed that was because of the magnet, but it turns out that isn't true either. That cohort makes up fewer than 28% of the magnet so fewer than 28 of the 250 kids listed in the doc..

True, I remember reading the post that showed Blair's SAT average was 50 points higher for the largest common cohort to it and any W. Some people argued but the magnet which was ridiculous because it's a small program in a large school that's also mostly Asian. It goes to show that Blair envy is a real thing.

Blair 1326
Walter Johnson 1275
Wootton 1262
Churchill 1257

https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/sharedaccountability/reports/2017/1771102HS%20Princ_SAT%20Partic_Perf%20Class%20of%202017.pdf

It's nice to see a direct comparison between cohorts to account for demographic differences to see how these schools to see how they really stack up. Guessing there may be two dozen out of boundary magnet students in this mix but that shouldn't really change the bigger picture by more than 20-30 points.

Yes, the grade has 100 magnet students, A dozen or more in-boundary anyway and fewer than 30 are included in this cohort so yes the impact is pretty negligible.

Perhaps, it goes to show that the same kid will do well at any school, but regardless it's fascinating that using demographic cohort as a proxy for SES differences paints a very different picture than a simple average.

Anonymous wrote:The magnet is less than 30% white which is the cohort being listed at 1326 SAT average. So what 25 out of boundary white kids at Blair out of the 300+ seniors who took the SAT that year?

Easy enough to settle this.

1526 Blair Magnet SAT average
1326 Blair SAT average score for common cohort
250 total number of kids from cohort that took SAT
25 out of boundary magnet kids in the cohort (cohort less than 30% of magnet)

(250 - 25) / 250 = 90% non-magnet cohort total
10% magnet % of cohort total

0.9x + 0.1 * 1526 = 1326
0.9x + 152.6 = 1326
0.9x = 1173.4
x = 1303.77

But even if there were 0 in boundary kids in this cohort in the magnet, Blair would still be ahead of the other HS.

Thanks for clear that up!

That's facsinating. Didn't know the county even published this data.

This was interesting because the poster attempted to isolate for socioeconomic differences across these schools by simply comparing the largest common cohort as a way to see how the schools actually stack up as opposed to which school has the richest or poorest demographic mix.

Sounds to me like that's more on the rest of the county. Or perhaps Takoma Park just reflects the county as a whole the way Ohio did for presidential elections for many years.

Omertà! The Takoma Park mafia will get to you if you’re not careful.

It'll be interesting to see how effective they are against MS-13 once the schools are integrated with eastern PG county schools.

FFS, you’ve said this three times now and no one gave you any attention so you’re back. No takoma park schools are not going to be “integrated” with schools in another county so you can keep your racist “MS-13” references for another day.

So you support segregation. Huh.

And when did you stop beating your spouse?

This is a typical east county progressive gaslighting tactic. You're attempting to distract from the fact that you support segregation by throwing a flash-bang. It's not going to work. Answer the question. Do you support desegregation or not?

I wasn't wrong. I was just using the data I found which was a couple years old. Glad to see Blair doing better. I'm sure that PG county students will appreciate an environment so committed to learning. I don't know what MoCo students will find at PG County schools though. As we know, busing goes both ways. I'm sure they will be fine.

You keep misusing the word "gaslighting." It does not mean to distract or throw a flash-bang.

OK, so I'll put you down for segregationist. That won't make you very popular at the co-op.

Blair parents must have the best drugs. The thing about it is that Blair has the cheapest housing in any close in area around all of DC that isn’t PG (which it is right next to). Just about any of the W parents that the DCC crew spews their disdain towards could move to the nicest home IB to any DCC school they chose including Blair at a discount to their current home. Most of the DCC parents can’t afford even the entry point into the non-consortiums schools let alone a SFH at say Whitman, a few maybe but not many. It makes the whole premise of “Blair jealousy” a joke, why would people be jealous of something they could have so easily? You don’t get to pretend that schools packed to the brim with the poorest in the county are some how selective and a privilege.

Blair parents reek of sour grapes that they didn’t want anyway....too sour. Next thing they will tell us is that a Pontiac is just as good as a Cadillac

Such talk makes you look crazy
Anonymous
I always snicker when posters or most likely the same one? Claims Blair envy. That isn’t a thing. But it goes to show the efficacy of the magnet program in raising perceptions at least locally to it when paired to being priced out of many other close-in areas. That isn’t a bad thing for the DCC and silver spring parents who have kids to educate.
